About the Department

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Provide leadership for learning in the nursing department simulation lab.
  2. Coordinate simulations to include selecting and/or creating appropriate scenarios with instructor input, student learning objectives, set-up of equipment, moulage, assist instructor with debrief as appropriate, etc. 
  3. Consult with other institutions on simulation techniques and innovations.
  4. Maintain simulation lab schedule for the nursing department.
  5. Obtain CHSE certification within 3 years
  6. Assist with Grant writing for support of simulation and lab equipment and scenarios. 
  7. Safety Days/Skills coordinator for fall skills review by students before the semester begins (yearly)
  8. Maintain and update simulation lab in collaboration with the Department Chair including but not limited to identifying needed software; lab supply and upgrading equipment needs; troubleshooting issues with equipment/software.
  9. Coordination with simulation vendors, the Department Chair, and BHC IT for upgrades and repair of simulation mannequins or equipment.
  10. Collaboration with faculty in the development, implementation, and integration of simulation activities for nursing students.
  11. Collaborate with Department chair for maintaining inventory of needed equipment, organizing equipment, and ordering of supplies. 
  12. Conduct evaluation of effectiveness of simulation learning. 
  13. Maintain current knowledge in the field of simulation technology and learning theory.
  14. Maintain the MDS notebook for the ADN lab and simulation suite.
  15. Complete the hazardous materials teaching for the ADN program faculty.

Position Duties

DESCRIPTION OF OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Executes duties and responsibilities of a BHC faculty member as assigned by the Nursing Department Chair up to a maximum of 40% time.  
  2. Maintains assigned files for College including those of a confidential nature.
  3. Assists Nursing Department Chair with review of simulation learning evaluations. 
  4. Coordinates special projects as assigned.
  5. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

  1. Reports directly to the Dean of Health Services.
  2. Works directly with the Nursing Department Chair and all Nursing Faculty.
  3. Works directly students.
  4. Works cooperatively with all Black Hawk College staff and faculty.
  5. Works cooperatively with community agencies as required, including school districts, libraries, Regional Offices of Education, and various state agencies and partners. 

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.)

  1. Master’s degree in Nursing, emphasis on nursing simulation preferred
  2. CHSE certification preferred
  3. CHSOS certification preferred
  4. Teaching/management experience preferred.
  5. Experience working with diverse populations required. 
  6. Basic level of proficiency with Microsoft Office required.
  7. Strong communication skills required.
  8. Experience in writing and managing grants is beneficial.
