For our office in Schaffhausen, we are looking for a
Process R&D Engineer
As a Process R&D Engineer, you will be at the forefront of developing, evaluating, scaling, and optimizing both new and existing processes — from concept through commercialization. You will drive innovation with a strong focus on sustainability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness, ensuring our processes meet the highest performance standards. In this role, you will also collaborate closely with CDMOs, toll manufacturers, and other external partners to deliver successful project outcomes.
What you will do with us:
- Design, develop, and optimize chemical processes and/or technologies from lab scale through pilot scale.
- Conduct lab- and pilot-scale experiments to establish and validate new processes.
- Work cross-functionally with Regulatory, IP Legal, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to ensure seamless technology transfer.
- Perform cost analysis/estimation based on available process data, supporting projects from bench to plant scale and assessing scale-up and economic feasibility.
- Support implementation of Process Safety Management and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) to meet safety standards.
- Stay informed on emerging technologies, proposing innovative solutions for continuous process improvement, and document development activities, experimental results, and process specifications.
Your qualification & attributes:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field (PhD preferred).
- 5+ years of R&D or process development experience in the agrochemical and/or pharmaceutical industry, with hands-on lab and plant work.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, supported by proficiency in data analysis tools and process simulation software (e.g., Aspen, MATLAB, Minitab, AutoCAD).
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements, quality systems, and experience with sustainability or green process initiatives.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with fluency in English and German.
- Willingness to travel up to 20% and thrive in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
