The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) will provide comprehensive medical services in the Emergency Department at the Quentin N. Burdick Memorial Healthcare Facility, serving patients of all ages with diverse medical, surgical, pediatric, geriatric, gynecological, and health maintenance needs. This is a non-personal services contract, meaning the provider operates as an independent contractor accountable to the contracting organization, not directly supervised by the federal government.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care Delivery
-Conduct patient interviews, physical examinations, and review medical histories.
-Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to determine appropriate care plans.
-Provide diagnoses, develop treatment plans, prescribe medications in accordance with the IHS formulary, and refer patients as necessary.
-Offer direct medical care for acute and chronic conditions within the FNP scope of practice.
-Educate patients, families, and community members about health maintenance, disease prevention, and treatment options.
-Recognize and respond to urgent and emergent patient conditions, including stabilization and resuscitative measures.
Clinical Standards & Compliance
-Comply with IHS facility policies, infection control procedures, safety protocols, and CMS standards.
-Maintain accurate, timely, and complete medical records per IHS standards.
-Follow IHS Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee guidelines when prescribing.
Collaborative Participation
-Work under the direction of the Clinical Director or designee.
-Coordinate with other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care.
-Participate in quality improvement activities, peer reviews, and committee assignments.
-Provide occasional formal or informal training to facility staff.
Operational Duties
-Utilize the Purchased Referred Care (PRC) referral system for specialist services.
-Adhere to the facility’s scheduling, including holiday, weekend, and night shifts when required.
-Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA.
Qualifications
Licensure & Certification
-Current, unrestricted state nursing license (from any U.S. state or territory).
-Registration with an Advanced Practice Nursing Board.
-Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; ACLS, PALS, and NRP preferred.
Experience
-Minimum of one year of direct patient care experience within the past year.
-Demonstrated ability to deliver culturally sensitive care, particularly within Native American communities.
Skills
-Strong diagnostic, clinical, and interpersonal skills.
-Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced Emergency Department environment.
-Competence in educating patients and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
