SCOPE OF POSITION: The Resident Program Specialist designs, implements, evaluates, and leads resident programs at Ernest P. Barka Assisted Living Community while developing a curriculum of programs that promotes the well-being of residents and leads to active and engaged residents. Further, they ensure all federal, state, and local standards are met, as well as the Ernest P. Barka Assisted Living Community’s established policies and procedures. 

Position Duties

We are committed to providing preventative, restorative, and person-centered care to all residents at Rockingham County. We want our residents to feel safe, comfortable, and supported in all aspects of their lives to include not only physical, but also emotional, social, spiritual, environmental, and intellectual well-being. The Resident Program Specialist designs, plans, and manages diversified programs that enable each resident to engage in cultural, spiritual, emotional, environmental, intellectual, social, and civic activities within the Assisted Living Community that meets their individual needs and interests while being adapted to their current abilities. Further, this position leads resident programs, encourages residents to participate in activities, and fosters a positive and inclusive Assisted Living Community environment. The Resident Program Specialist creates/manages the monthly activity calendars to ensure activities are delivered seven days/week, researches new + innovative program ideas, works with various vendors/entertainers, plans/shops for special events to include seasonal + holiday celebrations, tracks attendance + progress notes related to resident participation, builds strong bonds with residents/families, creates a quarterly travel + excursion program in coordination with transportation staff, and implements safety protocols during activities. This position also trains, supports, instructs, and develops Assisted Living Community Resident Program team members, oversees resident requests/reports/records, provides support to the Director of Resident Care in planning/developing/organizing/implementing resident care services, attends/engages in interdisciplinary care plan meetings, coordinates fund raising efforts, and participates in required staff training and in-service education. Must be able to work hours as scheduled based on the requirements of the position/department, including flexibility for special events and rotating weekend/holiday requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Social Work, Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Management; or 
  • Licensed Occupational Therapist; or 
  • At least one (1) year of experience working with elderly individuals; or
  • Three (3) years related experience in the activities programming field; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, work and experience will be considered. 
  • Must be fluent in English and comfortable speaking in groups of people. 
  • CPR and First Aid Certification preferred.
