Iris multimedia contributors are responsible for creation of illustrations, photos, graphics, video and/or other content that: enhances the presentation of the writers’ articles on the Iris website, and draws attention to Iris content on various social media platforms. The position is expected to begin in September 2025 and end in April 2026.

The position requires the ability to work cooperatively with: 

  • the students on the Iris editorial team,
  • the Iris Editor (Women’s Center staff member)
  • other relevant Women’s Center staff members such as the Communications Coordinator and the Program Director for Communications & Advancement, and
  • students/staff carrying out social media efforts for Iris and/or the Women’s Center.
  • Duties will vary according to position

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Creativity and efficiency in translating concepts from draft articles into visuals that strengthen the writer’s message for each article
  • Proficiency with Adobe suite, canva and/or other image creation/editing applications
  • Organizational skills
  • Communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Orientation to deadlines

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of current best practices and multimedia file specifications for various digital platforms
  • Knowledge of contemporary publications with contributor and/or audience profiles similar to Iris

Required applicant documents:

  • 3 samples of multimedia work (upload files or provide links that demonstrate applicant’s experience in one or more media - photography, illustration, graphic design, etc.)

Compensation:

  • Compensation is $14.00 per hour.
     
  • The Iris multimedia contributor may charge 3 hours per completed piece of art for each publication cycle.
  • The number of art contributions assigned to individual students working in this role will vary.

Students that consistently demonstrate ability to make timely and creative art contributions can expect to have additional opportunities to contribute to Iris publication cycles later in the year and/or to return to the role in subsequent academic years if they are still enrolled at UVA and generally eligible for student worker positions.
