Attendance Interventionist (part-time)
Reports to: Director of Student Services and Interventions
Summary
The Attendance Interventionist will partner with students, families, staff, and community partners to reduce absenteeism..
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Collaborate with the school attendance teams to increase student engagement and reduce chronic absenteeism and truancy to:
- Identify students most in need of re-engagement and attendance improvement, based on attendance data and referrals;
- Work closely with students, families, and school staff to assess the strengths and needs of identified students and develop attendance improvement plans;
- Build and maintain relationships with identified students, their caregivers and school staff, and communicate regularly regarding attendance goals, strategies, and progress;
- Proactively reach out to families and conduct home visits to students/families to understand barriers to attendance and help students to engage in attendance improvement plans; and
- Review attendance data to determine appropriate follow-up to support regular school attendance.
- Participate in training related to student attendance and re-engagement strategies.
- Implement the Code of Virginia (Section 22.1-258) and the county’s procedures for monitoring student absences and identifying truancy.
- Work with school staff and community partners to make referrals for student and/or family support when appropriate.
- Collaborate with the Student Services and Interventions team to develop and/or access resources with community partners.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the director of Student Services and Interventions, or designee

- Ability to communicate with and build relationships with students and their families in a culturally and linguistically diverse community

- Ability to be flexible, compassionate, resourceful and persistent in one’s efforts to support students and families
- Effective communication, organization, writing, and team-building skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience directly related to the role.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents or the public.
Reasoning/Other Abilities
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
Physical Demands
Capable of traveling from school to school.
Capable of carrying heavy items, i.e. laptop computer, instructional kits, and other equipment.
