Pre-Assembly Specialist

PURPOSE:
The Pre-Assembly Specialist is responsible for preparing, assembling, and inspecting furniture components prior to final installation or shipment. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on skills. The ideal candidate ensures all parts are accurately assembled according to design specifications and quality standards, while maintaining an organized, efficient, and safe workspace.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform pre-assembly of furniture components, including sorting, staging, and light mechanical or manual assembly tasks.
- Follow detailed assembly instructions, blueprints, and diagrams to ensure accurate builds.
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and technical specifications for millwork fabrication and installation.
- Measure and cut materials to precise dimensions using woodworking tools and machinery.
- Use hand and power tools to assemble various types of furniture (e.g., case goods, seating, tables, shelving).
- Inspect and verify that all parts meet quality standards before and after assembly.
- Identify and report defective materials or parts to supervisors and suggest improvements where applicable.
- Maintain and operate tools and equipment safely and effectively. (e.g., table saws, chop saws, nail guns, power tools.)
OTHER JOB DUTIES:
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation, ensuring tools and materials are stored correctly.
- Package and label completed components for inventory, shipment, or final installation.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet daily and weekly production goals.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, company policies, and standard operating procedures.
- Assist in inventory management and material handling as needed.
- Provide technical support and recommendations for design modifications or improvements.
All other duties – Perform all other duties as assigned including carrying out responsibilities, performing duties, using skills, and working in conditions necessary to perform all assigned tasks
Qualifications
COMPETENCIES/SKILLS:
- High school diploma or GED required; vocational training or relevant technical coursework is a plus.
- 1–3 years of experience in furniture assembly, manufacturing, or a similar hands-on production environment.
- Proficient in using hand tools, power tools, and basic measuring equipment (tape measure, calipers, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings and part lists.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and efficiency.
- Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and performing repetitive motions.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Basic knowledge of inventory systems or production software is a plus.
- 3+ years of experience in millwork, finish carpentry, or related trades.
- Strong understanding of woodworking machinery, tools, and materials.
- Ability to read technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD files.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Knowledge of construction methods and practices related to millwork and cabinetry.
- Excellent manual dexterity, precision, and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with CNC machinery and CAD/CAM software is a plus.
