Summary
Ballast Investments (“Ballast” or “The Company”) is seeking an Accounting Manager, Accounts Payable to support the Accounts Payable vertical. Under the general supervision of the Controller, the Accounting Manager, Accounts Payable is responsible for overseeing the Accounts Payable team. This team is responsible for processing invoices, compiling and maintaining accounts payable records, communicating with vendors, and assisting the Treasury team as needed. Accounting Managers are responsible for establishing, creating, and documenting processes for business needs.
The Company is a vertically integrated owner-operator of multifamily, student housing, and single-family rental assets in the greater Western United States. Primary Responsibilities
• Ensure invoices are processed and reviewed in a timely manner
• Analyze coding for accuracy and implement improvements to reduce errors
• Review account reconciliations
• Prioritize payments as needed
• Review and update processes for improvement and validate compliance of set policies
• Prepare and manage responsibilities in keeping with tax and audit schedules
• Facilitate 1099 process
• Oversee the process of obtaining W-9 forms and appropriate backup, as needed
• Attend to vendor inquiries and resolve payment issues
• Facilitate communication with vendors and onboarding
• Monitor trackers and setup KPIs for team
• Other duties as assigned by upper management
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business required or equivalent classes from a 4-year college
• Minimum 5 years or more accounting work experience
• 3+ years of experience as a general ledger accountant or related position
• 2+ years of management experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products and Microsoft Windows
• Intermediate Excel skills required (filters, sorting, pivot tables, V lookup, etc.)
• Real estate and/or construction and/or property management experience required
• Accounting software experience required; Yardi experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of Tax and GAAP rules and regulations preferred

• Able to plan, organize, and prioritize workload to meet deadlines
• Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage, prioritize, and effectively meet deadlines while working on multiple assignments simultaneously.
• Possess a strong accounting background, including extensive experience with general ledger and entity-level transactions
• Strong leadership skills with dedication to driving and achieving results
• Ability to accurately research and follow through on complex problem-solving items, as well as initiate resolutions
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to communicate internally with team members as well as externally with vendors and other service providers
