RECREATION LEADER II (PART-TIME/RANK & FILE)
Under general supervision, implements and provides lead direction for recreation programs for youth and adults at a designated site. Provides telephone and in-person customer service to the public. Assists in City wide events, rentals, and prepares a variety of promotional material such as flyers, news releases and posters. This is a multi-incumbent position. It is permanent part time. These are highly responsible paraprofessional positions and require prior experience in recreation and provide direction to other Recreation Leaders.
Position Duties
Leads and provides oversight, instruction, and support for multiple recreational activities provided through the department; assists, coordinates, and facilitates adult sports, recreation programming, music, dance, arts, and crafts; Serves as a frontline communicator greeting the public, answering calls, and providing information regarding recreation programming and services; Coaches, officiates, and keeps score at sports contests; ensures safety of all participants, monitors security of equipment, and provides maintenance and support as needed; Calculates, tabulates, and compiles sport and league statistics; Orders equipment, supplies, and prizes; maintains inventory records and participates in general maintenance and custodial activities; performs set up and breakdown of equipment for various programs; Creates, revises, updates, and prints material specific to the recreation facility; assists with rental request for the facility, schedules meeting rooms, and maintains facility calendar; Prepares, drafts, and creates promotional materials such as flyers and posters; Assists in City wide events as assigned; supports a wide range of programs and services requiring a variety of skills and functions; Maintains complete, accurate, and timely records; prepares simple reports and provides information on program effectiveness; Checks equipment in and out and verifies proper identification; receives monies for facilities rentals, counts and logs money, and issues receipts; Assists with the review of facility rental contracts; Prepares athletic fields; inspects, checks, and maintains equipment; Plans, organizes, and conducts events; Coaches, teaches, and instructs participants in the assigned sport or activity; Operates various city vehicles, tracks mileage, and checks to ensure all facilities and parks are functional and maintained; Assists with the training of guidance of Recreation Leaders; Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
A combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities. A typical way to obtain these would be High School Diploma, GED with and Associates Degree preferred AND two (2) years of experience in recreation programming and leadership. CPR and First Aid Certificate. Knowledge of: Principles and practices recreation; Sports or skilled activities assigned; Principles of facility rental and scheduling; Cashiering and simple bookkeeping; Rules and Regulations. Ability to: Provide leadership in facility operations, scheduling and rental; Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Maintain effective working relationships with other people; Lead the work of part time recreation leaders; Maintain complete, accurate and timely financial records for facility use; Operate Microsoft Office, computing systems, and mobile devices.
