Work Location

This position is only eligible for in office work arrangements at our Corporate Headquarters location in Springfield, Oregon.

Compensation

  • Base Salary: The full salary range for the Collections Support Associate position is $19.05 to $28.75 per hour, with new hires generally starting between $20.65 to $23.90 per hour, based on relevant knowledge, skills, education, and experience. 
  • Annual Incentive: In addition, all SELCO team members receive an annual incentive based on how well SELCO meets the prior year’s strategic business goals. This incentive is calculated using the team member’s prior year eligible earnings and ranges from 0%-12% (with the average payout over the last five years being 11.07%).

Position Overview

Provide administrative support to the Collections Department team.

Essential Functions

  1. Provide administrative support in a variety of tasks including, but not limited to, handling incoming and outgoing mail, account reconciliation, and document management. 
  2. Assist with the coordination of development, implementation and maintenance of Collections-related systems, procedures, and programs. 
  3. Act in the capacity of and provide support for all positions as needed.
  4. Maintain thorough electronic documentation of individual collection activities or issues.
  5. Prepare letters and other documents, including, but not limited to, meeting agendas, memorandums, spreadsheets, etc.
  6. Maintain office supply inventory; ordering, filling, and stocking as needed.
  7. Process transactions and perform file maintenance on accounts when necessary.
  8. Interact with internal and external customers in a warm and friendly manner, demonstrate a sincere interest and willingness to help.
  9. Adhere to federal and state regulations, Credit Union policies, confidentiality requirements, and other compliance obligations.
  10. Consistently achieve individual performance goals and contribute to department and organizational objectives.
  11. Actively participate in required meetings and trainings.
  12. Demonstrate leadership skills and maintain service promises, corporate values, and mission statement.
  13. Represent the Credit Union with a high level of integrity and professionalism.
  14. Actively participate in security, disaster recovery, and fire training.
  15. Adapt to change to accomplish SELCO’s goals and objectives.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities

The position requires the following:

  1. Exceptional customer service skills by using the GVAL-HI approach to providing service. Greet people. Value them. Ask how you can help. Listen. Help them. Invite them back.
  2. Excellent communication and presentation skills in person, over the phone, and in writing including through electronic channels.
  3. Sophisticated computer and software skills, including Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  4. Possess a good understanding of computer transactions needed to perform operational tasks with the ability to read histories and interpret account activity.
  5. Possess a good understanding of banking and general state and federal laws related to financial privacy, fair lending, collections, bankruptcy, and any other applicable laws or regulations.
  6. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with individuals and groups at all levels both within and outside the Credit Union.
  7. Excellent time management, prioritization and organizational skills with a high level of initiative, responsibility, and accountability, including flexibility to adapt to changing business needs and deadlines.
  8. Strong problem resolution and problem prevention skills.
  9. Strong analytical ability with active listening skills.
  10. Possess knowledge of specific Credit Union product requirements.
  11. Willingness and ability to receive, give, and assimilate coaching and feedback.
  12. Ability to work accurately with a close attention to detail.
  13. Ability to use experience-related knowledge and good judgment to make sound, logical decisions based on loan and/or collection policies and guidelines.
  14. Ability to recognize member financial needs and effectively cross-sell and close Credit Union and CUSO products and services; excellent member/customer service skills.
  15. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  16. Work ethic that includes dependability, punctuality, and a professional appearance and demeanor.
  17. Ability to perform duties in an environment with background noise and complete tasks despite interruptions.

Education and Experience

  1. High school diploma or equivalent; and
  2. At least six (6) months of customer service experience; and
  3. Must be bondable.

​​​​​​​Physical Demands

While performing the job duties, approximately 70% of the time is spent stationary, with the remaining time spent moving around work areas. Frequent communication occurs in person, over the phone, and in writing. This position requires the ability to view a computer screen and interpret printed materials and other documents. This position requires the ability to lift and transport up to 5 pounds, and there is an occasional need to stoop, kneel, or reach to access documents, equipment and supplies.

Interaction and Work Environment

Reports To: Collections Manager and Collections Assistant Manager

Work areas are inside in a climate-controlled environment with background noise.
