The Import Business Development Specialist plays a vital role in driving the growth and operational efficiency of our import business. This position focuses on customer quoting, tariff management, coordination with global teams, and ongoing support for both internal teams and customers. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities while maintaining a customer-centric approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate accurate import quotes, confirming rate acceptance with origin offices and applying special pricing, EXW rates, and other applicable charges.
- Prepare Foreign-to-Foreign (FTF) quotations, ensuring proper coordination with both origin and destination offices.
- Compile smaller customer-specific tariff requests, ensuring all pricing details and agreements are accurate and in place.
- Request rate filings through the Pricing Team and verify accuracy of RFQ submissions.
- Monitor quote validity and follow up on rate updates for ongoing shipments with extended validity periods.
- Solicit and incorporate feedback on quotes, making adjustments based on customer needs.
- Advocate for specific trade lanes and identify optimal pricing strategies for targeted customers.
- Collaborate closely with the Trade Lane Management (TLM) team to ensure business opportunities are captured and pursued.
- Supervise bookings once quotes are confirmed and serve as the main escalation point for issues arising during the PRC handling process.
- Work with origin offices to investigate and correct erroneous charges billed to Shipco US, ensuring credit notes are obtained where necessary.
- Support sales personnel by assisting with quote generation, onboarding new customers, and providing detailed process, pricing, and booking guidance.
- Represent Customer Service when timely responses are lacking, providing support to customers on a range of inquiries including routings, delays, warehouse details, deliveries, pricing, and website usage.
- Escalate technical issues such as website malfunctions, pricing discrepancies, or tariff errors to the appropriate internal departments.
- Participate in sales calls and conduct training sessions for customers on the company’s platform and service offerings.
- Assist with Named Account Customer (NAC) requests and support them with any operational or billing-related issues.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- 2–4 years of experience in freight forwarding, logistics, or import/export operations.
- Strong knowledge of international shipping practices and Incoterms (e.g., EXW, FOB).
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Proficiency in rate calculation and quoting practices.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Experience working with global teams, particularly in Asia, is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with internal pricing and booking systems preferred.
