Boater’s World Lake Placid is seeking an accomplished, hands-on General Manager with proven leadership experience in the marine, recreational, or powersports industries. This role is the heartbeat of our dealership, driving operational excellence, maximizing profitability, and delivering an exceptional customer experience.


The General Manager will be responsible for the full spectrum of dealership operations — sales, service, and parts — with direct accountability for P&L performance, staff development, inventory management, and strategic growth. We are looking for someone who can lead from the front, inspire the team, and ensure our dealership remains a go-to destination for boating enthusiasts in Central Florida.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage all dealership operations, ensuring profitability in sales, service, and parts departments.
  • Develop and implement short- and long-term business strategies to meet or exceed performance goals.
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels year-round, anticipating seasonal trends and market demands.
  • Create a customer-first culture, ensuring every visitor leaves with a memorable experience that generates repeat business and referrals.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and retain high-performing staff across all departments.
  • Lead daily sales and operational meetings to drive alignment and execution.
  • Monitor P&L, analyze performance metrics, and make data-driven decisions to improve results.
  • Manage expense control, protect company assets, and ensure financial accountability.
  • Oversee local marketing initiatives, promotions, and community engagement to grow brand visibility.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies.
  • Partner closely with the Director of Retail Operations on performance reviews, goal setting, and operational improvements.

Requirements

 

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in the marine, recreational vehicle, or powersports industries (General Manager, Sales Manager, or equivalent).
  • Proven track record of delivering year-over-year sales and profit growth in a dealership or retail environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of marine products, services, and seasonal market trends.
  • Strong background in P&L management, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Demonstrated success in inventory management and optimizing turns.
  • Exceptional leadership skills — able to inspire, coach, and hold teams accountable.
  • Experience developing and executing strategic marketing plans that drive measurable results.
  • Strong negotiation skills with both customers and vendors.
  • High level of organization with the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and dealership management systems (DMS).
  • Comfortable working extended hours and weekends during peak season.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; boating experience or captain’s license preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Manufacturer certifications or factory training with leading marine brands.
  • Established network within the boating and marine community.
  • Experience with community involvement, sponsorships, or event hosting to promote dealership presence.
  • Knowledge of service department workflow and best practices for efficiency.

Working Conditions

  • Combination of office, showroom, and service area environments.
  • Occasional travel for manufacturer meetings, training, and industry events.
