Assistant Store Manager / Buyer - Retail

 

Employment Type: Part Time, 20 hours per week

Reports to: General Manager

Pay range: $20.00-$23.00 an hour

General Description:

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Assistant Store Manager / Buyer to lead the day-to-day operations of our boutique and manage product buying. This hybrid role requires a passion for retail, an eye for trends, and strong leadership and customer service skills. The ideal candidate will take full ownership of the store’s performance, customer experience, and merchandise assortment.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

Store Management

  • Oversee all daily store operations, ensuring a clean, organized, and welcoming shopping environment
  • Lead, coach, and schedule staff to ensure high performance and engagement
  • Provide exceptional customer service and resolve issues or complaints with professionalism
  • Monitor and maintain visual merchandising standards
  • Manage inventory levels and track product movement
  • Handle opening/closing procedures and ensure adherence to security protocols
  • Maintain accurate cash handling and POS operations

Marketing & Sales Support

  • Collaborate on promotional planning, email marketing events, and in-store displays
  • Provide input on social media content and marketing ideas to support sales
  • Identify opportunities for community engagement and brand outreach

Buying & Merchandising

  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors, reps, and wholesalers
  • Monitor sales trends and adjust product mix as needed
  • Plan seasonal buying budgets in coordination with Senior Leadership Team 
  • Coordinate deliveries, track shipments, and manage product receiving
  • Price merchandise in line with desired margins and brand positioning
  • Source, select, and purchase merchandise that aligns with the boutique’s brand, customer base, and seasonal trends
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

  • 2+ years of retail management experience, preferably in a boutique or specialty store
  • Prior buying or merchandising experience strongly preferred

Qualifications and Skillset:

  • Must be available to work nights and weekends
  • Ability to analyze sales and inventory data to inform decisions
  • Proficiency with POS systems and basic business software (Excel, email, etc.)
  • Ability to lift to 30 lbs. and be on your feet for extended periods
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • Strong time management skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Creative; knowledge of current trends critical
  • Strong understanding of customer service and visual merchandising
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
