Quality Technician - Testing
Position Summary:
The Quality Technician is responsible for inspecting and testing raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods to ensure compliance with customer specifications and internal quality standards in a corrugated box manufacturing environment. This role supports the quality assurance process by identifying defects, documenting findings, and working with production teams to resolve quality-related issues. This position requires the ability to travel to other company or customer sites on a weekly basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine testing of corrugated board and boxes, including but not limited to:
- Edge Crush Test (ECT)
- Box Compression Test (BCT)
- Grammage, caliper, and moisture content
- Adhesion/Polybond testing
- Dimensional inspections and visual checks
- Conduct first article inspections and in-process quality audits during production runs.
- Ensure proper documentation of test results and non-conformance issues.
- Accurately complete quality records including test reports, inspection forms, and control charts.
- Work closely with machine operators and supervisors to identify and address quality issues in real time.
- Maintain calibration and cleanliness of testing equipment and lab area.
- Assist in root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action efforts.
- Verify packaging, labeling, and product appearance according to specifications.
- Help monitor incoming raw materials for quality compliance.
- Support customer complaint investigations and audits as needed.
- Travel to customer sites or other company facilities as required, typically on a weekly basis.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Quality, Manufacturing, or related field preferred.
- 1+ years of quality experience in manufacturing preferred; experience in the corrugated packaging industry a plus.
Skills & Competencies:
- Familiarity with standard quality testing equipment and tools.
- Understanding of quality systems and documentation practices.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Good math, measurement, and record-keeping skills.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, quality software systems).
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel weekly, including potential overnight stays.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Work performed in both office/lab and manufacturing floor environments.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods, lift up to 40 lbs, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Exposure to noise, dust, and machinery typical of a corrugated production facility.
Schedule & Compensation:
- Full-time position, [day/night] shift, occasional overtime and weekly travel as required.
