Job Summary
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the Property Accounting team in the accounting for property-level operating expenses, property insurance and property taxes, as well as the accounting for real estate dispositions. Additional responsibilities include ensuring compliance with accounting rules, policies and procedures, as well as fostering an environment of continuous improvement and innovation.
Essential Functions
Lead the Property Accounting team in managing and executing all accounting functions tied to property-level operating expenses within Camden’s multifamily portfolio.
Directly mentor and develop a team of two accountants, while creating and fostering a culture of accountability, innovation and continuous improvement.
Manage month-end close processes, including accruals and reconciliations related to property-level operating expenses, property insurance and property taxes.
Assist in monthly variance analyses and reviews of financial results to ensure accuracy as well as compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
Lead the accounting processes for real estate dispositions, as well as directly support the Real Estate Investments, Finance, and Legal groups in the preparation of related closing statements.
Support Finance in annual budget and quarterly reforecast processes by providing detailed data, historical trends, and forward-looking insights on property-level operating expenses and property insurance.
Team with Shared Services and others to identify opportunities to streamline and improve efficiencies of current workflows.
Develop, implement, and continuously improve processes that include analytics and automation to enhance accuracy and efficiency of workflows.
Act as a change agent in adopting digital tools, automated and analytics workflows, and assist with cross-departmental initiatives.
Collaborate with Finance, Business Services, Shares Services, Risk, IT and others to promote cross-functional success of Camden’s initiatives.
Maintain and apply accounting policies in accordance with US GAAP, as well as ensure compliance with internal controls.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s and/or advanced degree in Accounting or Finance
Certified Public Accountant
5-7 years of professional accounting experience required with at least 1+ years in a leadership position preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Technology savvy, including extensive experience with ERP systems (Oracle and/or SAP), high proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and knowledge of business intelligence tools (e.g., Microsoft Power BI, etc.)
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team with emphasis on accuracy, timeliness and innovation
Strong analytical and multi-tasking skills
Detail oriented and highly organized
