Job Description Summary

This is a great opportunity to help drive the future vision of Lloyds Banking Group’s Design space, which is made up of multiple parts: 17 million active digital customers, 1,800 branches and 80 million phone calls yearly.

We want to make sure there’s a space for all customers to feel financially supported by us: in-branch, online or over the phone.

This means you’ll play a vital role in ensuring all design work creates a cohesive overall Lloyds Banking Group experience. One that’s consistent for customers, while supporting colleagues too.

Job Description

JOB TITLE: Senior Design System Visual Designer

GRADE: F

LOCATION: London

HOURS: Full-Time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time in our London office.

About the opportunity
We’re looking on for a hands-on design system expert to join us and play a key role in the continued evolution of our design system, with a particular focus on native platforms.

You'll join a multi-disciplinary central Brand Operating System (Cancara OS) team, responsible for defining, designing and managing the styles, components and patterns that make up the design system for all LBG brands.

You'll be an important player in our transformation: a creative innovator who is at the forefront of new technologies and always thinking about how to apply them to improve experiences.

You should also be a design advocate and understand how to apply design principles to make accessible customer experiences, whether it’s contributing to workshops, advising on standard process or responding to research.

As a Senior Design System Visual Designer, you'll have involvement in the following:

Product

  • Help to create, maintain and manage a multi-brand, multi-platform design system.
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team to take components and patterns from concept through design to documentation and code.
  • Collaborate closely with platform teams and engineers to deeply understand requirements.
  • Take part in product design reviews from a usability, brand consistency and accessibility perspective.
  • Advocate and provide support for LBG design libraries to the engineering and design communities.
  • Help drive design system adoption across the bank.

Team

  • Proactively seek opportunities to improve design system workflows and service, as well as overseeing other designers’ proposals and contributions.
  • Uncover emerging issues and needs, identifying potential causes, related issues, key customers and barriers; then suggesting and implementing improvements to existing design and business practices.
  • Coach and mentor designers throughout the organisation while pursuing and investing in opportunities for your own personal development.

Brand

  • Help evolve the digital brand across platforms and devices (including native and web)
  • Champion the customer and ensure LBG products and services meet their needs.

What you'll need

Essential:

  • Advanced competency with Figma. You must be able to demonstrate component construction using variants and auto-layout while effectively communicating your process.
  • Excellent technical understanding of designing for digital experiences.
  • An understanding of the culture and issues faced by developers, designers and content writers working in disparate teams.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with other design subject areas, writers and engineers.
  • Employ user-centric design methodologies and standard process research.
  • Strong understanding of digital accessibility. Good knowledge of WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) 2.1 and aware of any forthcoming changes.

Desirable:

  • Real-world experience of maintaining and distributing Figma libraries.
  • Experience of working on a dedicated design system team.
  • Although there is no requirement to be able to write code, some understanding of core web technologies (HTML, CSS) and component API design would be beneficial.

Key attributes:
