District Special Services - Early Childhood Child Find and Law Coordinator
Terms of Employment: Full time, 10 month position - temporary if hired after contractual start date for teachers
Reports to: Director of Special Services
Salary: Current teacher salary schedule
Job Summary:
This position plays a critical role in supporting the identification and evaluation of children in need of special education services (Child Find), while also assisting with documentation and procedural compliance related to due process and legal matters. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, a solid understanding of special education law, and the ability to work effectively with internal teams and families.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate Child Find activities in compliance with IDEA and local policies, ensuring timely evaluations for children suspected of having disabilities.
- Collaborate with school staff, service providers, and families to schedule and monitor evaluation and eligibility timelines.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for Child Find referrals, evaluations, and determinations.
- Support the legal and compliance team with gathering records, organizing documentation, and preparing reports related to special education lawsuits or due process hearings.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of reports required by state and federal agencies.
- Track and ensure adherence to procedural safeguards and legal timelines.
- Attend meetings, mediations, and hearings as needed, providing administrative and coordination support.
- Serve as a liaison between schools, service providers, legal representatives, and families to promote understanding and compliance.
- Additional time in the summer to support child find is required
Qualifications:
Required:
- Master’s degree in education, special education, or a related field.
- Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and other relevant special education laws and regulations.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in education, special education, or a related field.
- Experience working in a school district or education service agency.
- Prior experience with Child Find coordination and special education legal processes.
- Familiarity with IEP management systems
