About the Department
The NC Career Coach position is funded through a 5-year grant, with the current grant cycle anticipated to end in 2028. Continuation of this role beyond that date is dependent upon the renewal of grant funding from the North Carolina Community College System Office. The NC Career Coach is responsible for developing and implementing programs and services that connect high school students to career pathways and options. This includes engaging in outreach activities at the high school level to provide career exploration opportunities, programming, advising, and support services. Additionally, the Career Coach will collaborate with local community stakeholders, including business and industry leaders, to connect students with meaningful opportunities and experiences both during high school and following graduation. The Career Coach is expected to build strong relationships with Sandhills Community College instructors, high school staff, Hoke County Schools administration, parents, and students to establish effective and beneficial partnerships that support student success. This position is a part of a larger team that serves all eligible high school students interested in enrolling in the Career and College Promise program.
Position Duties

• Support outreach efforts involving high school learners to raise career awareness of opportunities and assist in enrollment of high school learners on the college level.
• Maintain records throughout the student’s enrollment in high school detailing services offered to aid in annual mandatory reporting.
• Coordinate events designed to promote awareness of career pathways.
• Advise students based on student’s career pathway and interests.
• Conduct follow-up and customer service functions.
• Serve on campus committees as requested.
• Collaborate with both high school and college personnel regarding student course enrollment with aligned with career interests.
• Build positive relationships between Sandhills Community College and the Hoke County school district.
• Coordinate and facilitate orientations and information sessions for students, staff, counselors, and parents.
• Collaborate with all stakeholders as appropriate to identify resources and needs to aid in student access and success.
• Demonstrate respect for advisees and/or students as individuals; this includes respecting the confidentiality of information shared while interacting.
• Treat others with dignity and respect and be committed to the highest standards of conduct and decency. Discourage any form of harassment, bullying, and/or abrasive behavior directed at colleagues, students, and campus visitors. Support open expression and diversity and be courteous, sensitive, and respectful to others.
• Attend educational offerings that enhance knowledge of student success resources.
• Participate in outreach initiatives and recruitment efforts within the department and college wide.
• Participate in evening and weekend events located on campus and at off campus sites and in the community to support registration.
• Respond to emails from students and colleagues in a timely and professional fashion.
• Remain available, responsive, and approachable while working with students.
• Maintain knowledge and awareness of SCC policies/procedures and incorporate those policies/procedures in records/reports in a timely manner.
• Work in partnership with colleagues and across campus and with the NCCCS to identify and address needs/resources that will ensure student success for all students.

Minimum Qualifications
Required education and experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, human services, or a related field.
• Two or more years of advising, mentoring, career guidance, outreach, or recruitment experience in a K – 12 or higher education setting.
• Experience in collaborating closely with parents and members of the community.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
• Demonstrated commitment to promoting college access for all students.
Preferred education and experience:
• Experience with Ellucian Colleague.
• Experience working within the North Carolina Community College System or North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
