Provides executive leadership for academic support and student services in the School of discipline. Responsible for developing, leading, managing, and assessing efforts across the School designed to foster academic, personal, and social success of undergraduate and graduate students. Leads and promotes student engagement through student success programs.
Responsibilities
Develops a strategic vision to foster and supports holistic student development in the school discipline from admission through graduation to ensure engaged learning environments. Provides leadership in the development, implementation, and assessment of strategies for increasing student success through services and academic support. Work closely with senior leadership (Dean, Assistant/Associate Deans of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs) to develop and implement comprehensive student success programming. Designs and conducts assessment studies to determine effectiveness, performance, and future direction of academic support programs. Oversees the New Student Orientation (NSO) program, including training, leading, and evaluating the school�s Coordinators. Collaborates with the Office of Admissions, Office of Academic Affairs, Office of Student Affairs and various departments on student pre-arrival communication and support related to streamlining the incoming new student experience. Oversees the development and implementation of the Peer Mentorship Program by developing measures to assess student transitions; coordinates mentoring interventions where needed. Establishes and manages Student Success Center operating budgets (state and discretionary accounts) to include reconciliation and production of monthly financial reports. Administers the school�s scholarship program to support and determine need and merit-based grants for students. Identifies, evaluates, and employs best-practices for scholarship selection and disbursement. Assists in the development, maintenance, and support of campus student organizations and faculty advisors. Develops, assesses, supervises, and implements student services and events including career fairs, family engagement, recognition events, career advising, cohort events, and commencement ceremonies. Develop and implement metrics to monitor the performance and impact of student success initiatives; presents recommendations to senior leadership on opportunities for improvement. Assists in grant writing through the contribution of data and program outcomes to increase extramural funding. Oversees and directs the work of all direct reports and support staff necessary to enact the vision of the Office of Student Success. Management duties include interviewing, selecting and training employees; planning and directing work; appraising productivity and efficiency, handling complaints/grievances and disciplining when necessary. Builds and maintains strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including academic departments, community partners, UTHSCSA Office of Alumni Affairs, Marketing and Communications, Student Life and others. Prepare regular reports for senior leadership, highlighting key achievements of the Office of Student Success, as well as challenges and opportunities for improvement. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge: In-depth understanding of college student development theories and student services program development; demonstrated ability in advising/mentoring transfer and/or non-traditional students. Knowledgeable in working with students from multiple academic, cultural, and economic backgrounds. Communication: Ability to shape other�s understanding in ways that capture interest, inform and gain support while actively listening to feedback. Demonstrated ability with grant writing and/or coordination of grant programs. Computer: Strong computer skills and demonstrated ability to use technology (PeopleSoft, CANVAS, Starfish, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.). Managerial: Skilled in leadership, supervision, and motivation of others. Ability to work well within a team and collaborate with colleagues and other departments. Ability to manage and diffuse conflict with professionalism. Business Acumen: Ability to respond to changing needs, requirements, and information; ability to function well in a busy, fast-paced environment. Strong budget management skills. Organization: Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate, timely and thorough records with high attention to detail; strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proven ability to set priorities and work independently. Ability to manage and oversee the work of direct reports and support staff. Conflict resolution: Ability to engage in constructive and respectful discussion with leadership, colleagues and students.

- Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.
- Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.
