The City of Greensboro Engineering and Inspections Department is seeking a skilled Trades Inspector II or Sr. (Electrical) to join our purpose-driven team. Compensation and Benefits:


Estimated Hiring Range: $56,183 - $79,838  Full Salary Range: $56,183.00 - $108,580.00 Annually

The selected applicants' hiring level can be determined by their experience and qualifications with the following salary options:

Inspector Trades II:  $56,183 - $73,925 annually

Inspector Trades Sr:  $60,677 - $79,838 annually

Candidates must obtain or be prequalified for an Electrical Standard Certificate Level II "OR" III with DOI prior to starting in the position.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM (8 hours per day)

About the Role:

As an Electrical Trades Inspector, you will:

  • Inspect residential, commercial, and industrial electrical installations for compliance with N.C. State Building Codes and City ordinances.
  • Conduct plan reviews, examining electrical plans and construction documents.
  • Investigate complaints, recommend corrective actions, and prepare reports and correspondence.
  • Work in various environments, including outdoor weather, loud noise levels, and potential exposure to electrical shock.
  • Engage in physical activities such as walking, standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in confined spaces

Minimum Qualifications

What You Bring:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED with 1+ years of hands-on experience in commercial & industrial construction wiring
    • "OR" No High School Diploma/GED with 5+ years of related experience in commercial & industrial construction wiring
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior plan review and/or blueprint experience
  • Electrical Standard Certificate Level II or III
    • "OR" Prequalified for Electrical Standard Certificate Level II or III (include copy with application)
  • Experience with a local municipality in electrical inspections
  • Supervisory experience
  • ICC Certification as an Electrical Inspector (include copy with application)
  • Mechanical Standard Level I and/or Plumbing Standard Level I (include copy with application)
