The Staff Accountant will play a crucial role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the bank’s financial records. The role involves preparing journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts, assisting in monthly close processes, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, a high attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Primary Duties:
- Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal controls.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, including cash, investments, loans, and deposits.
- Assist in analyzing variances between actual and budgeted financial results.
- Contribute to the timely and accurate closing of the bank’s books on a monthly basis.
- Prepare and review key financial schedules, including the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement.
- Prepare accruals and adjusting entries as needed.
- Ensure compliance with internal and external audit requirements and assist during audit reviews.
- Stay current with changes in GAAP, banking regulations, and accounting practices impacting the institution.
- Assist in financial analysis of the bank's performance, including profitability analysis, variance analysis, and trend identification.
- Support the preparation of management reports to assist leadership with decision-making.
- Provide analytical support for budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Assist with special projects as needed, including system implementations and process improvements.
- Provide backup to accounting functions as needed.

Job Skills Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- Two or more years of accounting or related experience, preferably in banking.
- Understanding of accounting concepts, including GAAP.
- Must demonstrate strong technical skills, including Excel and other accounting-related software systems.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with a high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Demonstrated ability to create electronic processes using data and programs to eliminate manual procedures.
- Ability to work independently, establish priorities, and ask questions timely.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with others throughout the organization.
- High degree of confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism.
