Plascon is a manufacturer of specialty plastic packaging that is used in the food service, institutional and pharmaceutical industries. We are searching for a Production Supervisor - Third shift to join us in beautiful Traverse City, Michigan. An associate's degree from an accredited two-year college or technical college, or equivalent work experience is required. Strong leadership abilities. Must have a minimum of two years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting. Must have a fork truck license and/or ability to obtain one. Successful candidates will have shown the ability to lead, communicate and coach a team of employees.


The regular work schedule is Sunday-Thursday 10pm-6am. 


Summary

This position is responsible for leading and supervising the hourly production employees in all areas of the facility to drive productivity and quality. Key focus areas include safety, planning and organization, continuous improvement, and the training and development of personnel. This position will spend a majority of shift time on the manufacturing floor.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Oversight of all production personnel on the assigned shift and as needed during off hours
  • Ensure manufacturing areas are organized and clean
  • Ensure employees are following required GMP’s
  • Generate a work plan for the various manufacturing areas that results in meeting the required product outputs on time and at planned cost with an acceptable quality level
  • Generate required work instructions and train personnel
  • Manage employee call offs to ensure planned production continues
  • Actively support the employee attendance program
  • Engage in continuous improvement efforts throughout the facility
  • Work cooperatively with maintenance personnel to ensure well maintained equipment
  • Respond to all departmental concerns in a timely manner and communicate issues and resolutions to all affected employees
  • Keep production management informed on all abnormal or critical situations
  • Provide training and education to personnel regarding job responsibilities, processes, and equipment
  • Work with all employees to ensure understanding and compliance of all safety and BRC requirements
  • Ensure timely and accurate communication to employees
  • Ensure the on-boarding process is completed with each new manufacturing employee
  • Complete and deliver employee reviews on time
  • Conduct employee counseling and disciplinary actions
  • Conduct a timely and accurate review and approval of employee timesheets
  • Complete shift crossover with other supervisors
  • Ensure production data is compiled and accurate

Supervisory Responsibilities


Directly supervises production hourly employees. This includes approximately 9-14 hourly employees assigned to third shift. Fulfills supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems in consultation with Human Resources.

Education and/or Experience

Associate degree from an accredited two-year college or technical college, or equivalent work experience. Strong leadership abilities. Minimum two years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting. Fork truck license and/or ability to obtain one. Ability to lead, communicate and coach a team of employees.


Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to draft reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees and managers.


Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Computer Skills Ability to utilize computer at a basic level for data and inventory entry and for scheduling, time keeping, etc.
