Role Summary

The Training Colony Management Lead is responsible for onsite and offsite colony management services. The Training Colony Management Lead will engage in the improvement and advancement of the Training Department through identification, planning, and implementation of projects and improvement activities. 

 

Role Responsibilities

  • Manage colony animals on and offsite, including inventory, ordering, prescreening requests, and animal assignments.
  • Act as Study Director for colony animals.
  • Oversee training animal requests and assignments.
  • Develop, schedule, and coordinate cross departmental training opportunities. 
  • Recognize, initiate, develop, and lead improvement activities to proactively advance the Training department. 
  • Provide training on husbandry, animal handling, and advanced skills across species, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Role Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required. Undergraduate degree in animal or life sciences preferred.  
  • Minimum of 1 year of project management/project coordination preferred.  
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office core applications and the ability to learn and use additional applications. 
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to handle common laboratory species. 
  • Knowledge of GLPs and other federal regulations relating to care of laboratory animals. 
  • Knowledge of protocol and study design.  
  • Exemplifies the desired culture and philosophies of the organization.

Special Requirements

  • The role will spend approximately 80% in an office setting and 20% in the laboratory. There will be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There will be handling of, and/or exposure to animal tissue and zoonotic organisms. 
  • Ability to don and wear personal protective gear, including N95 masks and respirators.  
  • Physical activity includes lifting (up to 50lbs), carrying (up to 40lbs for up to 50ft), pushing/pulling (up to 75lbs force), reaching, gripping/pinching, standing, and ascending ladders without restriction.  
  • Ability to work beyond typical work schedule including, but not limited to, evenings, weekends, and extended shifts with short notice.
