Compensation:  

 

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity.  At ND Paper, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.

Job Description:

The Occupational Health Nurse will work under the direction of the Safety Manager. This is a full-time salaried position.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate safety as a core value and drive safe work practices throughout the organization.
  • Oversee and manage the administrative and operational activities of occupational health services
    1. Assure compliance with regulatory requirements related to clinical operations
    2. Responsible for securing and developing all records, equipment, and programs related to occupational health services
    3. Collaborate with outside resources for program development, such as healthcare providers, third-party administrators, legal advisors, medical consultants, regulatory agencies, etc.
  • Responsible for assuring the appropriate access and utilization of healthcare services
    1. Evaluate and treat all injuries and illnesses in an efficient and professional manner within the scope of practice and consistent with clinical nursing guidelines
    2. Guide and direct all referrals to outside healthcare providers and services
  • Provide or manage the required physical evaluation programs and services to meet regulatory requirements, such as OSHA, Department of Transportation, etc. 

 

  • Train and lead Industrial Medical Responder team
  • Assist with the accident investigation program to identify root cause analysis of all incidents and near misses
  • Provide appropriate case management
    1. Manage all cases to facilitate productivity, assuring appropriate care and return to work including workers’ compensation, short- and long-term disability cases
    2. Assess healthcare needs, then implement and manage healthcare programs to improve health and facilitate return to work, maintain OSHA records/reports and worker medical files
    3. Assist departments with identifying, evaluating, and implementing accommodations and return to work options for workers with restricted duty
  • Collaborate with Environmental Health and Safety, Operations, and Human Resources to develop operations, programs, and services by providing content expertise.
    1. Contribute to the design of controls for injury prevention and health surveillance related to actual and potential hazards in the work environment.
    2. Identify primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention and health promotion strategies to optimize health of the population.
    3. Able to perform or learn to perform various screenings and required testing, including Audiograms, health history questionnaires, basic physical exams, and substance abuse testing according to federal, state, and/or mill guidelines. 

 

Required Competencies:

  • Intermediate understanding of federal and state regulations applicable to occupational and environmental health and safety.
  • Ability to work independently, solve practical problems, and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 
  • The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Intermediate computer skills are essential for daily work activities and with the use of an electronic medical record.
  • Must be detail oriented, have ability to multitask and possess great interpersonal skills.

 

Required Experience and Education:

  • Active Maine State license as a registered nurse (RN) 
  • BLS certification
  • Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist (COHC) or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Experience in Occupational Health Nursing, case management, workers compensation, and injury management highly preferred
  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) desired but not required
  • BLS Instructor with ability to provide employee training desired
