HealthFirst Family Care Center, a Certified Great Place to Work and wonderful place to make a difference, is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team of mission-minded healthcare professionals to work primarily our Medication Assisted Treatment program.
JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Clinician and the Site Manager, the MAT (Medication Assisted Treatment) Medical Assistant performs various office and clinical duties to keep our healthcare practice running efficiently and is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of patient care in the MAT Program. (S)he oversees patient flow and provides skilled clinical services to opioid dependent patients and their significant support systems. (S)he will work directly with Clinicians, Nurses, and other Medical Assistants to collect test samples, maintain patient records, and assist in examinations. (S)he is an integral member of the healthcare team to help improve patient outcomes and increase patient satisfaction.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work under the direction of the healthcare clinician and nurse manager
- Collaborates, communicates, and meets with MAT treatment team and other practice care team staff as needed and required
- Involves working at most HealthFirst sites- Franklin, Laconia (Church St.), Archways, and Isaiah's Cafe
- Prepare pre-planning form for each visit in advance of appointment
- Clean, prepare, and stock examination rooms and turn on computers prior to appointments
- Welcome patients by greeting them, in person or on the telephone
- Verify patient information through patient interviewing
- Record patient information- including vital signs, weight, HPI, chief complaint, changes in medical history, allergies, and update medication list during each appointment
- Ask and document screening and health maintenance questions (SBIRT, PHQ2, GAD, etc)
- Prepare patient for healthcare examination
- Support patient care delivery by helping healthcare Clinician during examination
- Gather notes for visit, collect laboratory specimens, perform basic laboratory tests onsite, dispose of contaminated supplies, prepare medical instruments for sterilization, administer medications and vaccinations, perform phlebotomy, complete electrocardiograms, remove sutures, change dressings
- Authorize prescription refills as directed and call or fax prescriptions into pharmacies
- Works with pharmacies, insurances, and the MAT team in obtaining medication orders, prescriptions, refills, prior authorizations, and communication when needed
- Review PDMP for controlled medication prescriptions and patient compliance
- Maintain MAT spreadsheet of current patients including, but not limited to: name, DOB, address, phone number, prescribed treatment, dose, frequency, prescription due date, last medical office visit, last behavioral health office visit, lab values and dates, PDMP results. Maintain spreadsheet of patients on the waitlist for MAT program
- Assist in the ongoing primary care of patients referred to the MAT Program
- Supports the MAT and primary care teams in meeting Quality Improvement Goals
- Take telephone messages, consult with Clinician, and provide feedback and answers to patient/ pharmacy/ care giver/ guardian. Respond to patient calls within a timely manner. Document all calls and visits, maintain accurate notes in telephone messages, and attach to progress note in patient’s chart
- Update and maintain all electronic patient records
- Complete records by recording patient information, treatment, and lab results
- Sort and prioritize Clinician folder
- Maintain patient confidence and protect patient confidentiality
- Generate revenue through accurate documentation, record billing information of services rendered, complete insurance forms, respond to insurance and third-party inquires
- Ensure proper inventory supply by querying stock, placing orders, verifying receipt
- Participate in educational conferences and trainings to further job knowledge and experience
- Attend and participate in MAT and other HFFCC meetings as directed
- Other duties as assigned

Requirements
EDUCATION, LICENSES and CERTIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program
- Certified or Registered through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- BLS certification
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
- 2+ years of experience working in a healthcare practice or hospital
- Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow
- High level of professionalism and organization
- Strong customer service skills and phone etiquette
- Inventory management experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Medical terminology
- Knowledge of electronic medical records (EMR)
- Ability to perform phlebotomy and administer injections
- Reliable and accurate documentation skills
