Who We Serve

North Bay Regional Center (NBRC) provides advocacy, services, support, and care coordination to children and adults diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in Napa, Sonoma and Solano counties.

We partner with community-based organizations and agencies to empower our clients to thrive and live as independently as possible within the geographically, culturally, and ethnically diverse communities we serve.

North Bay Regional Center is a nonprofit private corporation that contracts with the Department of Developmental Services to coordinate services and support for individuals with developmental disabilities.  At North Bay, we’re promoting opportunities by supporting choices for people with developmental disabilities. North Bay Regional Center serves over 12,000 people living within the geographic boundaries of Napa, Sonoma and Solano counties. 


DEFINITION 

The NBRC Dental Coordinator will oversee all aspects of NBRC’s dental program, including referrals to providers for dental services, oversight of the desensitization clinic, and providing education about dental services to NBRC employees and community partners. In addition, the Dental Coordinator will identify, recommend, and develop new dental services, while supporting current providers. This position will also provide advocacy at state and local levels for access to dental services for qualified individuals with Developmental Disabilities. 

 

NATURE OF WORK

Under the direction of the Director of Intake and Clinical Services, the Dental Coordinator will be responsible for identifying the barriers for NBRC clients to proper dental care. They will recruit dentists and dental specialists, develop resources and training, coordinate dental services for persons served, while also providing oversight of the dental desensitization clinic. The Dental Coordinator will attend statewide regional center Dental Coordinator meetings, conferences and seminars, to keep abreast of trends in the specialized oral health field. The Dental Coordinator position will not be responsible for providing hands-on dental treatments or procedures, but is expected to work closely with NBRC vendors, staff, community dental providers and the individuals we serve. 


Specifically, the Dental Coordinator will:


· Train regional center staff on how to refer individuals with developmental disabilities to receive needed dental services.

· Consult with NBRC employees and community partners on matters pertaining to the dental needs of NBRC clients in Napa, Sonoma, and Solano Counties.

· Identify and coordinate appropriate provider and service referrals to meet the unique dental needs of the individual served, including but not limited to, sedation which may be required.

· Provide clinical treatment recommendations while considering an individual's developmental disability and collaborate with the treating provider with a focus on the individual’s needs.

· Assist with identifying potential funding sources for client dental care by accessing insurance, community clinics, grants, and other generic resources prior to utilizing NBRC vendors.

· Professionally interact with community dental professionals and function as liaison between groups and NBRC.

· Assist with the development and maintenance of hospital dentistry services. 

· Assist with activities to recruit, support, and retain dental providers who are willing to provide services to NBRC clients.

· Assist dental providers with the vendorization process required by Community Services. 

· Provide ongoing support and assistance to dental vendors around patient coordination, billing issues, and questions pertaining to Regional Center dental services.

· Assist with development and ongoing functions of the dental desensitization clinic.

· Advocate at the state and local level for dental services for individuals served. 

Requirements

  

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education

· Completion of accredited/California Board approved Registered Dental Hygienist or Registered Dental Assistant Program

Licenses

· A current, unrestricted California Registered Dental Assistant License (RDA/RDAEF) or

· A current, unrestricted California Registered Dental Hygienist License (RDH/RDHEF/RDHAP)


EXPERIENCE

Must have at least 5 (five) years of related, professional experience providing direct dental care. Experience with dental coordination and dental desensitization is preferred.   

· Minimum qualifications experience may be waived depending on the agency’s need for specialized skills (such as language abilities).

· Minimum education and licensing requirements may not be waived.


KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

· Experience coordinating dental services for individuals with developmental disabilities. 

· Advanced dental knowledge to be able to work with a variety of clients across all age ranges. 

· Ability to read, understand, and interpret legislation and regulations as they relate to the development, implementation, and evaluation of dental services for individuals with developmental disabilities. 

· Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. 

· Advanced skills in using common office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

· Demonstrated critical-thinker and innovative problem-solver. 

· Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail. 


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

· Ability to provide personal automobile transportation, or access to another form of reliable transportation, during and after working hours. 

· Ability to regularly travel to all NBRC offices within catchment area to provide employee training and support as needed and attend community events.

· Must be able to occasionally travel to attend meetings outside of catchment area, including occasional overnight travel to attend statewide meetings, to participate in dental clinic observations, and to develop new resources.

· If operating own vehicle, must provide minimum automobile liability insurance as required by California Law.

· Flexibility in work hours is required to meet the needs of the regional center constituency. 

· This position will be primarily based in the office; however, a hybrid work arrangement may also be available.

· Fluency in a language in addition to English is desirable and may be required.


A note regarding NBRC’s expectations regarding remote, hybrid, and home-based work……

All employment at NBRC requires face-to-face, in-person interactions with NBRC clients, family members, community, and co-workers. Candidates for employment must live within commute distance to their preferred NBRC office, as well as the geographical location of their assigned clients.  While 100% remote work is not available to NBRC employees, a hybrid work arrangement with a blend of in-office and home-based work may be available for new employees after successfully demonstrating achievement of performance expectations following at least 3 months of in-office work.

Bi-lingual language differential:

  • For those speaking, reading and writing other than English – $200 per month
  • For those speaking a language other than English – $150 per month

Salary Range:

$68,952 – $76,020 with opportunities for 5% increases annually.
