Sheboygan County Health & Human Services is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Lead Economic Support Specialist to support our Economic Support team in delivering accurate and timely benefits to individuals and families in need. In this critical role, you will serve both as a policy expert and a mentor—guiding team members, promoting service consistency, and helping to ensure compliance with state and federal programs.

Position Duties

  • Determine eligibility and manage a reduced caseload for programs including Medicaid, FoodShare, BadgerCare Plus, and Wisconsin Shares

  • Provide real-time policy and systems support to Economic Support staff

  • Mentor and coach team members, supporting training and professional development

  • Assist in onboarding, training sessions, and development of reference materials

  • Conduct case reviews and help identify trends or training needs

  • Collaborate with internal teams, community partners, and consortium counties

  • Deliver responsive, trauma-informed customer service to diverse populations

  • Support program compliance, consistency, and overall team performance

  • May assist with child care certification, fraud referrals, or other specialized functions

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • At least one year of experience as a Wisconsin Economic Support Specialist is required

  • Two or more years of experience in eligibility determination is strongly preferred

  • Additional education in Human Services, Social Sciences, or Business is a plus

  • Strong understanding of Wisconsin public assistance programs and systems (CARES, CWW, ECF)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organization, and critical thinking skills

  • Comfortable mentoring peers, supporting training efforts, and guiding case practices

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet) and related technologies

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required for occasional off-site meetings
