Behavioral Health Overview:

RiverStone Health recognizes that depression is the third most common reason for a visit to a health center and one in four adults suffer from a mental disorder in a given year. The Behavioral Health team provides mental health and substance abuse counseling and treatment for patients and provides referrals to other community-based services.

Job Summary:

This employee has overall responsibility for further developing and maintaining an effective, integrated behavioral health program to serve patients throughout the Community Health Center, Healthcare for the Homeless and School-Based Health Centers.  The Manager of Mental Health Services works effectively as a member of the leadership team while providing direct care to patients.  This position champions a Behavioral Health model of care in a community health center.

As an LCPC/LCSW, this position assesses and treats individuals with mental, emotional or substance abuse issues.  Duties include individual and/or group therapy, crisis intervention, case management, client advocacy, prevention and education.  The position consults with physicians and other clinic staff to provide solution-focused care.  The position coordinates and connects patients and clients to appropriate social services to meet the physical, financial, social and/or environmental needs of patients and their families as needed.  

The  Manager of Mental Health Services is responsible for managing the daily operations of the above  program/location(s), as determined by the Director of Behavioral Health, leading a team to provide high quality mental health and substance use care delivery.  The position builds relationships between the community, staff, providers and clinics.  The incumbent brings content expertise and knowledge surrounding the program elements, deliverables and metrics.  The work environment is typically fast paced.  Work is performed to ensure efficiency of program delivery, incorporating integrity and innovation to ensure a high level of customer service.

Essential Functions/Major Duties and Responsibilities:

A.   Manager of Mental Health Services & Patient Care Services                        75%

  • Direct, supervise and evaluate work activities of behavioral health staff as directed by the Director of Behavioral Health.

  • Develop and implement organizational policies and procedures for the behavioral health team.

  • Plan, implement, and administer programs and services in a health care facility, including personnel administration, training, and coordination of behavioral health staff

  • Review and analyze facility activities and data to aid planning and risk management, and to improve service utilization.

  • Establish work schedules and assignments for staff, according to workload, space, and equipment availability.

  • Prepare activity reports to inform management of the status and implementation plans of programs, services, and quality initiatives.

  • Inspect facilities and recommend building or equipment modifications to ensure emergency readiness and compliance to access, safety, and sanitation regulations.

  • Maintain communication between medical staff, and department heads by attending behavioral health operations and other meetings as directed, and coordinating interdepartmental functioning as directed by the Director of Behavioral Health.

  • Assist the Director of Behavioral Health with fiscal operations, including reviewing patient encounters and determining necessary adjustments, planning budgets, authorizing expenditures, and coordinating financial reporting.

  • Develop instructional materials and conduct in-service and community-based educational programs.

  • Excellent internal communication with other RiverStone employees, and providers to ensure efficiencies and quality customer service.

  • Willingness and ability to ensure quality work, support of others and participate in quality improvement processes.

  • Represent RiverStone Health in meetings, trainings or public events when needed.

  • Leads and/or serves on a variety of appropriate internal and external committees to represent the Behavioral Health Services.

  • Provide individual and group patient care.

  • Provide complete and accurate patient medical records and documentation.

B.   Supervision Responsibilities                                        20%

  • Provide clinical supervision to LCSW’s, LCPC’s, and LAC’s.

  • Provide supervision for those seeking LCPC/LCSW licensure if appropriate.

  • Ensure Standards of Behavior are practiced among the team.

  • Coach and provide leadership to supervisees

  • Utilize corrective action as directed by Director of Behavioral Health or HR when Policies and Procedures or Standards of Behavior are not met.

  • Approve time off requested by supervisees and ensure that BH team is well staffed when approving time off.

  • Approve time sheets for supervisees.

  • Audit charts for appropriate diagnosis as directed by the Director of Behavioral Health.

  • Audit charts for treatment plans as directed by the Director of Behavioral Health.

  • Complete six month or yearly CHATs (Conversations to Help us Achieve Together) or other employee evaluations.

Non-Essential Functions/Other duties as assigned                            ≥5%

  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the RiverStone’s mission and goals.

Education and Experience: 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work or related field

  • Current LCSW, LCPC and LAC in good standing.

  • Any combination of experience and training which provide the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Medical terminology training or experience

  • 3 years of supervisory experience

  • Experience in community education or presentations

  • Experience in community health center or with underserved population

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Current professional license in the State of Montana LCSW or LCPC in good standing.

  • Valid State of Montana Driver’s License in good standing

  • Required to obtain emergency preparedness on the job training

  • BLS Certification

Physical Demands and Working Conditions: 

  • Standing, bending, sitting, lifting required

  • Required to travel to different clinic locations

  • Ability to travel and use own personal vehicle. Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, other vehicles, etc. Travel occurs in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.

  • Create and maintain a safe/secure working environment by adhering to safety, security, and health requirements. Integrates injury, illness, and loss prevention into job activities by attending any necessary training and implementing best practices.

  • Coordinates, facilitates, and/or leads staff meetings, continuing education workshops, in-service meetings, educational materials, and training for staff as necessary.

  • Responds to and resolves staff questions, will follow up on complaints and incidents as requested from Risk Management Manager, investigates clinical incidents to identify trends and opportunities for process improvement.

Budget & Resource Management: 

  • Provides input into the development of the annual program budget
