The Washington Evening Journal, in Washington, IA, has an immediate opening for a full-time sports journalist with strong reporting and photography skills. Experience in page layout and design is a plus. Primary responsibilities will include covering high school athletics for multiple school districts. That will include game preview & recap stories, reporting on special sport related events and accomplishments throughout our coverage area and feature stories about area teams, student-athletes and community members, plus other duties as assigned. We will expect our Sports Editor to be present and visible at sporting events.
We focus on strong print publications as we continue to grow our digital platforms and audience engagement. We are a 5-day-per-week, afternoon newspaper with a four person newsroom that is committed to delivering accurate and entertaining content to our readers.
