General Definition of Work
Performs difficult skilled technical work in the analysis and day-to-day management of public safety server related systems to include support for CAD, RMS, JMS, Active Directory, email systems, disaster recovery, server monitoring and performance, data backup, hardware virtualization, storage management, and web-filtering, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Director, Information Technology.

Essential Functions
Designs, implements and maintains public safety server hardware and operating systems, storage network systems, backup and recovery systems, e-mail systems and anti-malware systems.
Supervises assigned personnel; assigns and inspects work, coaches, counsels, evaluates, develops schedules for and trains staff.
Assists in the planning and implementation of public safety IT projects for the County.
Prepares requests for proposals, bid proposals and standard operating procedures for the County's IT public safety technology.
Evaluates and recommends server hardware, storage area network, backup and recovery systems, e-mail systems, computer hardware and software and peripheral devices to the Director.
Responds to inquiries and complaints from external departments, agencies and vendors. Assists with department budget planning and preparation in conjunction with County policy. Prepares and maintains files and records for the department; prepares reports.
Responds to 24x7 support calls either remotely or on site as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of computer hardware and software; thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of the operation and logic of computer equipment and related principles, practices and techniques; ability to understand and apply basic hardware/software documentation; thorough knowledge of programming languages and available software packages; thorough knowledge of principles of computer systems, procedures analysis and design; ability to develop computer reports that present accurate and relevant information in a usable format; ability to effectively manage projects, including maintenance of schedules and timetables, and preparation of reports on project status; ability to train or instruct on line users in the use of computer equipment and operating procedures; ability to communicate ideas effectively both orally and in writing; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, users and associates.
Education and Experience
Associates/Technical degree in information technology, computer science, or equivalent combination of education and experience in server administration, application/systems administration, helpdesk or desktop technical support.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires sitting and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Special Requirements
Possession of Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate - Server (MCSA), VMware Certified Professional (VCP5- DCV), or Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) certifications preferred.
Valid driver's license in the State of Georgia.
