Responsibilities

This employment opportunity is restricted to residents of Whale Cove only.

 

Reporting to the Supervisor Home and Community Care, the Home Community Care Worker II assists clients in activities of basic personal care, and if necessary, household management, according to an established client care plan. Helping clients to maintain independence and function safely in their home environment. The HCCW II reports any observed changes in the client’s condition to the Supervisor Home and Community Care or the Program Supervisor in the community. 

 

The key responsibilities of the HCCW II include ensuring all client, family and program information, records and communication are treated with strict confidentiality. Carries out the client care and/or service plans by following the pre-determined task list. Assist clients with activities of daily living, which may include bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, providing medication reminders and ambulation, including assistance with walking, climbing stairs and getting in and out of bed.  Prepare nourishing meals and special diets as required. Plans meals with the client and assists client with grocery shopping. Maintains ongoing written records and calls/communicates with client. Assists with medical interpretation for the Home Care Nurse. 

Qualifications

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through completion of grade 10 and two (2) years of home care experience. Read and write and communicate in English and Inuktut. Training in Personal Care Skills, BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support), and First Aid certificates will be considered as assets. Ability to communicate in French is an asset.  This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in English and Inuktut is required for the position. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
