About the Department

The Town of Gilbert has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional to fill the position of Victim Advocate within the Police Department. The individual selected to fill this position will provide information and support services to victims of crime and act as a liaison between the victim and Police Department. This opening presents a great opportunity for public service and professional growth in a positive, busy work environment.
 
Some of the responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: notifying victims of trials, court hearings, and case dispositions; assisting with preparation of victim testimony; assisting victims in petitioning for orders of protection, injunctions against harassment, and other applicable legal orders; assisting victims in completing forms and paperwork; facilitating community outreach by collaborating with victim assistance programs and social services agencies; managing cases by maintaining case files and electronic databases, and ensuring applicable statutory and regulatory requirements are met throughout casework.

Position Duties

The ideal candidate for this position will be passionate and have a knowledge of Victims' Rights. This position requires someone who has skill in exemplary customer service, case management and has extensive Microsoft Office experience. Top candidates for this position will seek a high level of commitment to the citizens of Gilbert and the Police Department.  A self-starter work style and the flexibility needed to be a team contributor are highly desirable, as are good written and oral advocacy skills.

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, Human Services, Psychology, or another related field
  • Three years of customer service experience with a focus on counseling, social work, or crisis intervention
  • One year of experience in case management and Victims' Rights
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License
  • Completion of National Victim Assistance Academy (NVAA) or state academy, preferred
  • Spanish/English Bilingual a plus!
This position is an At-Will position and is FLSA Non-Exempt – eligible for overtime compensation.
