JOB PURPOSE
The Digital Asset Librarian manages marketassets, provides skills in content and digital asset management; i.e. taxonomy,indexing, cataloging, archiving, file naming, metadata tagging, contentmanagement systems. The Digital Asset Librarian strategically implements andmanages the Digital Asset Management (DAM) / Digital Library systems which willhouse all final creative assets including product photography, modelphotography, IBC photos, print and digital graphic design files, publications, catalogcontent, brand assets, video, music, podcasts, and other digital content.
In order to better organize Mary Kay’sdigital assets, the Digital Asset Librarian will need to thoroughly understandthe various aspects of Mary Kay’s unique and complex business. This includes butis not limited to having an in-depth knowledge of the structure of Mary Kay’sIndependent Beauty Consultant (IBC) organization, company product lines, andpromotional programs like Career Cars, Career Apparel, and others. The DigitalAsset Librarian will work closely with the product and creative teams to planfor the timely distribution of digital assets and serve as a vital resource toassist Mary Kay’s U.S. market employees in finding the assets that they needfor marketing, advertising, and other purposes.
Giventhat digital assets are the final deliverable of nearly all creative work, theDigital Asset Librarian will report to and work closely with the CreativeProcess Specialist. This will ensure that organization and distribution ofdigital assets is tightly integrated with creative workflows and processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. DAM/Digital Librarysystems manager and subject matter expert (SME). The Digital Asset Librarian is responsible for the management of DAM andother digital library systems (such as cloud storage systems and file servers)for the U.S. market. As DAM manager, the Digital Asset Librarian will beresponsible for adding and removing users from the systems, set appropriaterights and permissions for all users including outside vendors, set systempolicies regarding usage rights, and be responsible for system configurationand reporting. The Digital Asset Librarian will be a key point of contact withMary Kay’s IT department to make sure that the library systems work within MaryKay’s technology environment. As SME for the library systems, the Digital AssetLibrarian will also serve as the key point of contact for employees interactingwith the DAM, will provide training for all users, and technical assistance forusers as needed.
2. Adds digital assets toDAM, maintains library to ensure assets are current. The Digital AssetLibrarian will work with the creative team to devise processes and proceduresfor ingesting digital assets into the DAM and library systems. This willinclude creating or improving guidelines for file naming, adding metadataincluding licensing and usage rights, and assigning appropriate keywords,categories, and other identifying tags. The Digital Asset Librarian willregularly check the U.S. product calendar and retrieve Global Marketing assetsthat are needed for the U.S. market in order to add them to the U.S. librarysystems.
3. Coordinates andpartners with the creative staff including Art Directors, Print Producers, AccountManagement, internal clients, photo retouchers, and photographers. Works closely withinternal creative staff and other stakeholders like internal clients and PublicRelations to make sure that U.S. market assets are easily retrievable and inthe correct format. Coordinates with product marketing to anticipate futurephotography needs. The Digital Asset Librarian will act as a resource for theentire U.S. market to find and retrieve digital assets, will be proactive inanticipating organizational needs, and partner with both business owners andour IT department to implement technical solutions to business problems relatedto digital assets.
Education | Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in library science preferred, or equivalent combination of training and experience in managing digital asset management systems. |
Experience | 3+ years of creative and graphic work experience in design studio, advertising agency or corporate communications environment. |
1. Hasproficiency with digital asset management systems, understands metadatastandards such as XMP, IPTC, etc., is familiar with creating policies withinDAM systems for managing photo licensing rights and collections.
2. Hasa thorough understanding and knowledge of various creative digital formats suchas Adobe Photoshop, TIFF, JPEG, PNG, etc. Understands color theory in regardsto the differences between RGB and CMYK, color profiles, file compression, andmetadata. Basic understanding of Adobe software such Photoshop, Bridge, Illustrator,and InDesign is a plus.
3. Must be able to multi-task and managemultiple projects at once while keeping on track to meet deadlines. Must havestrong interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively with vendorsand internal stakeholders.
