POSITION SUMMARY
The Academic Counseling Coordinator of Counseling Services supports the district's mission to ensure every student graduates ready for college, career, and life. Specifically, this position will support our strategy to ensure every APS student graduates enrolled, enlisted, employed, or as an entrepreneur. Serving within the College & Career Readiness Department under the Teaching & Learning Division, this leader provides district wide coordination, training, and support for school counselors. This position plays a key role in implementing academic counseling practices that align with the district's strategic goals and college and career readiness indicators. The Coordinator provides leadership for all K–12 counseling efforts with a specific emphasis on: Academic Advisement, Dual Enrollment, Accelerated Career, Dual Enrollment funding, Graduation progress monitoring, Individual Success Plan/College & Career Plan implementation, and Supporting students to become enrolled, enlisted, employed, or entrepreneurial post-graduation.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION
- Master’s Degree in School Counseling required
- Doctorate preferred.
- CERTIFICATION:
- Valid Georgia PSC certification in School Counseling
- WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a K-12 school counselor (High School experience preferred).
- Demonstrated understanding of state and federal funding streams, especially related to Dual Enrollment and the Accelerated Career Grant.
- High School leadership and/or counseling experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES - Deep knowledge of Dual Enrollment policy, college access programs, and funding structures
- Familiarity with CCRPI indicators and postsecondary readiness benchmarks
- Ability to lead district-wide initiatives and professional learning
- Skilled in data analysis for student performance, graduation readiness, and program evaluation
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across diverse stakeholder groups
- Proficiency with student information systems, transcript review, and scheduling
- Expertise in academic advisement
- Commitment to equity and access for all student groups
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Strategic Program Development - Led the development and execution of a comprehensive K–12 counseling program aligned with district strategic priorities.
- Collaborated with principals and school counselors to ensure counseling services are data-driven, equitable, and student-centered.
Academic Advisement & Postsecondary Readiness - Provided expert guidance on academic advisement, dual enrollment, HOPE funding, Accelerated Career Grant regulations, and college and career planning to promote student access and compliance.
- Implemented district-wide systems to monitor student progress toward graduation and postsecondary goals using Individual Success Plans and College & Career Plans.
Partnership & Pathway Expansion - Built and maintained strong relationships with postsecondary institutions to expand college and career pathway opportunities.
- Supported alignment of school-based programming with regional workforce and higher education needs.
Counselor Development & Support - Delivered coaching and professional learning to school counselors focused on academic planning, postsecondary advising, and student transitions.
- Developed resources and tools such as transcript audit protocols, advisement guides, and milestone tracking frameworks to support effective planning and student success.
Data Analysis & Continuous Improvement - Monitored and analyzed CCRPI and other key college and career readiness indicators to drive data-informed improvement initiatives across schools.

Additional Work Conditions & Physical Abilities: Will require travel to multiple sites.
