Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Recruitment, the Student Recruitment Officer works as a member of the Seneca Student Recruitment team whose primary function is to promote Seneca programs and pathways, both private and public, to secondary and non-secondary prospective students. Through effective relationship building with external stakeholders (i.e., high school contacts and community agencies), the incumbent will deliver engaging in-person and virtual presentations to promote Seneca’s programs and services, offer ongoing one-on-one advising support to prospective students to increase enrolment, and effectively leverage Seneca’s contact management tool to manage lead information. The Student Recruitment Officer will promote active and ongoing participation in Seneca recruitment strategies, initiatives, and events. 

This is a one year temporary assignment and hybrid opportunity. 

Responsibilities

Outreach Activities 

  • Delivers virtual and/or in-person presentations to a wide range of audiences on Seneca programs, pathways, services, procedures, processes, and student experiences. 
  • Advises prospective students, influencers and key stakeholders at school and community visits (local, provincial, and national) and during scheduled office hours about Seneca programs and services, degree transfer agreements and pathway opportunities, policies, and procedures on an ongoing basis. 
  • Collaborates with the Student Recruitment team, Marketing and Communications and various Seneca academic and service areas to provide input into the development of presentations to be delivered to a variety of audiences. 
  • Supports the planning and execution of small- and large-scale recruitment events and initiatives, both on campus and off site. 
  • Develops and maintains strong, ongoing relationships with high-school guidance, staff, school boards, community organizations and other key educational stakeholders to encourage long term recruitment strategies. 
     

Prospect and Applicant Engagement  

  • Builds and maintains regular and consistent communication with prospective students and applicants throughout all aspects of the application and conversion cycle.
  • Proactively reaches out to prospective students, applicants, influencers or stakeholders via phone, email, text, live chat, or virtual platforms following outreach visits, major recruitment events (Open House) or initiatives (webinars, tours) and selected digital and advertising campaigns. 
  • Provides one-on-one advising to prospective students, applicants, influencers, or stakeholders to help walk through and educate on Seneca programs, educational pathways, career planning and pathways, credential upgrading, academic upgrading and application processes and requirements. 
  • Uses Seneca’s CRM and marketing automation tools to report consistently on the progress of prospective students and lead activities and follow ups; uses this data to plan future touchpoints, outreach opportunities and review optimization opportunities for future interactions.  
     

Recruitment Strategy

  • Provides up-to-date information and strategizes on recommendations to help increase enrolment, in consultation with academic and service areas. 

  • Develops and conducts campus tours and presentations virtually, off campus or at any of Seneca’s campuses. 

  • Arranges and/or conducts workshops for prospective students on topics related to promoting Seneca’s programs and services. 

  • Supports the planning and implementation of on-campus special events and open house activities. 

  • Coordinates and trains student ambassadors for specific events and the general duties as part of the team.  
     

Qualifications

Education

  • Minimum completed three (3) year diploma or degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Community Services, or a related field. If education is in another field of study, please state how it is relevant. 

Experience 

  • A valid Ontario Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle is required due to travel for this position. 
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressive experience in a related function involving planning and delivering presentations to medium and large size groups. 
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience providing guidance and support to current and/or prospective students.  

Skills 

  • Self-directed, with demonstrated organizational, planning and time management skills, and the initiative to identify and action next steps independently. 
  • Strong customer service and communication skills, with an understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion. 
  • Broad knowledge of current labour trends and the college system in Ontario, with the ability to develop an understanding and extensive knowledge of Seneca and its program offerings, financial aid, and admission requirements. 
  • Ability to travel daily and for several days at a time within the province of Ontario. 
  • Innovative mindset, with a focus on continuous improvement.

 

 

Note: A skills assessment test will be administered during the recruitment process. 

A combination of relevant experience and education may be considered as equivalent to the above requirements in the event that there are no internal applicants that meet the qualifications as posted.  Equivalency will be assessed by the talent acquisition team.
