RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to and receives operational and functional guidance from the Central Engineering Manager or their designee. Candidate will fill a key position as a civil designer. This position supports a variety of projects and deliverables for all areas and other functional organizations within the company. Under direct supervision: - AutoCAD Civil 3D, including:
- Grading plans (cut/fill analysis, spot elevations, surface creation)
- Existing conditions overlays with limited source data
- Utility layouts and profiles (storm, sanitary, water, electrical conduit routing)
- Interpretation of legacy drawings and map sets, including partial scans, outdated formats, and mixed coordinate systems
- Translation of hand sketches and markups from engineers into professional, submittal-ready plan sets
- Comfortable with scale conflicts, inconsistent datum references, and overlaying civil data across multiple generations of site documentation
- Interpretation of survey data, the ability to efficiently move from a survey to an existing site plan
- Conduct field visits to gather measurements and as-built information
- Review and revise drawings based on feedback from project stakeholders
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: - Assists in studies to formulate, determine and evaluate design criteria for structures, systems and equipment Items.
- Assists in the preparation of specifications for structures, systems and equipment Item.
- Makes routine calculations and analyses in support of design engineering, such as earthwork, material quantity take off and statistical data
- Assists in computer-related activities, such as preparing input data and using computer programs for computerized solution of technical problems, including the use of CAD Systems for drawing preparation.
- Assists engineers in reviewing and recommending action on client requests for engineering change orders and obtains the required approvals.
- Performs technical research and gathers data needed by engineers.
- Performs detailed review of drawings to ensure drafting/design accuracy, completeness, and format suitability.

Education: Associate’s degree in technology, science, or mathematics or an equivalent combination of related education and experience, or specialized courses in a technical field. Mathematical, computer, code, design, or drafting expertise or a combination of the same preferred Experience: - 12 years of relevant experience required for T6.
- 15 years of relevant experience required for T7.
- Must have considerable mathematical, computer, code or design drafting experience.
- Must possess expert level skills with Civil3D software
- Knowledge of drafting, design, and engineering systems technology and calculations, familiarity with applications of computers to engineering problems.
- Basic skills in oral and written communications
- Must have the ability to work with all levels within and across organizations.
PREFERRED: - Direct experience working at UCOR or other DOE facilities.
- Experience with any or all of:
- AutoCAD
- MicroStation and conversion to AutoCAD
- Solid Works
- Autodesk Vault Pro
