JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for developing state of the art drilling performance applications, leading a team of highly skilled engineers. Must be hands on with respect to software development in LabView, C, C++ and PLCs. Accountable for Quality and Consistency of Automation Software products produced by the team. This position envisions product development and manages projects through completion; analyzes designs and develops automation system software enhancements and new modules; manages development projects from initial design through testing while providing strategic management direction.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Designs, develops and modifies drilling rig controls software and tools, including prototypes and carries them through field testing.
• Researches drilling controls, performance and automation product options and provides analysis for department’s future product direction.
• Consults with internal departments and working with the business groups, consults with external customers to identify customer needs and include into project objectives.
• Works with other engineering disciplines to design and develop automation solutions.
• Perform work in accordance with Nabors HS&E policies and procedures.
• Manage team of engineers ensuring design quality and proper documentation of design
• Define and enforce design process steps, including reviews and release processes
• Mentor engineers on proper design methodologies
• Provide insight &/or design system architecture
• Liaise with Project Managers on system functional requirements
• Interface with other departments on manufacturing and testing objectives of prototype equipment
• Set team and individual priorities as needed in alignment with project managers
• Provide detailed progress reports and system functionality documents for upper management
• Identify and hire qualified candidates for team
• Work with the legal department on intellectual property management
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from recognized University or 5 years of additional experience in controls and automation development in lieu of degree
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in software development an engineering environment, developing controls and automation software
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in heavy machinery control, specifically in rotating equipment.
• Proficient in Software development in LabView, C, C++, PLC (Allen Bradley, Siemens), Robotics Toolkits
• Design of equipment models and controls in Matlab, Similink
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience in drilling rig equipment control is preferred.
• Technical Capacity in a controls & automation environment with AC drives and motors.
• Work with electrical hardware teams and translate requirements into control strategies
• Ability to read P&ID, electrical and hydraulics drawings and translate into PLC structures.
• Strong technical skills in multiple automation environments including Rockwell and Siemens, both PLC and HMI.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS
• While this position is primarily based in a professional office environment, travel to yards and rigs is essential and required.
• The position supports drilling rigs that work 24/7 and will routinely require phone availability outside regular work hours.
