Job Summary:


The Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) is responsible for conducting substance use assessments, providing individual and family counseling, and developing treatment plans that support recovery, ensure child safety, and promote family stability. Working collaboratively with the Family Treatment and Rehabilitation (FTR) team, the CASAC will apply a strength-based, solution-focused approach to help families identify and build upon their existing capabilities and resources. CASAC will maintain a neutral and objective stance, facilitating open communication and trust among agency staff, family members, and children. This role plays a vital part in mitigating the impact of substance use on parenting, with the goal of fostering safe, stable, and nurturing home environments for children.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  

• Conducts substance use screenings and assessments for referred families.

• Conducts and provide written assessments of families to the case planer, and/or supervisor within prescribed timeframes.

• Collaborates with families and the FTR (Family Treatment Rehabilitation) team to develop individualized substance use treatment plans.

• Participate in monthly Clinical Diagnostic Team Meetings to support case planning.

• Directly intervenes in complex cases and family conferences involving substance use concerns.

Provides psychoeducation and substance use-related training or informational support to FTR staff as    needed.

• Submits a weekly CASAC calendar to the Program Director, reflecting scheduled and completed assessments.

• Ensures all case documentation is entered into CNNX and PROMIS systems in a timely manner.

• Participates and attend training as required.

• Responds to crises such as relapse, overdose, or immediate child safety threats related to substance use.

Requirements

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:


• Excellent verbal writing, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation

• Ability to foster relationships between all stakeholders and work with diverse families

• Thoroughly complete all assigned work within the prescribed timeframes

• Demonstrated adherence to acceptable ethical and behavioral standards of conduct

• Effectively prioritizes daily responsibilities and duties

• Computer proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel



Qualifications/Requirements:


• Must be able to work 10 hours monthly

• Bachelor’s or master’s in social work, Psychology, Counseling, or Human Services.

• Valid NYC CASAC (Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor) Credential.

• Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in substance use assessment and counseling.

• Bilingual; Spanish preferred.

• Perform other duties/responsibilities as assigned within the scope of the position.

Hourly rate: 

$50 Hourly
