Location: The Riverside Church in the City of New York (New York, NY)
Reports to: Head of Weekday School
Department: Weekday School
Scheduled Work Hours: Part Time, 25 hours per week
Salary Range: $30,000 to $40,000
JOB SUMMARY:
Located in the MLK Tower of historic Riverside Church, the Weekday School is a private, progressive, play based, early childhood school serving families with children from age 2 to 5 years old. Our school’s mission, inspired by the spirit of the Riverside Church mission, is to nurture an awareness of diversity, mutual respect, compassion, empathy and community.
We are looking for a friendly and reliable Front Desk to be the first point of contact for our school. This person plays an important role in creating a positive experience for everyone who walks through our doors.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
As the Front Desk, you will be an integral part of the school’s daily activities which include greeting families, answering phones, and helping keep our front office running smoothly. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Welcoming children, families, staff, and visitors with warmth and professionalism
- Answering and directing phone calls and emails in a clear, courteous manner
- Managing student sign-in/sign-out and maintaining accurate attendance records
- Assisting with scheduling tours, meetings, and parent conferences
- Helping with administrative tasks like filing, data entry, and organizing forms
- Receiving mail and deliveries, and keeping the front desk area tidy and organized
- Supporting the director and teaching staff with various office needs
- Support faculty and staff during emergencies
- Maintaining confidentiality and following school safety procedures
- Support lunch distribution to classrooms
Qualifications:
We’re looking for someone who is organized, approachable, and enjoys being part of a school environment. The ideal candidate will have:
- A high school diploma or equivalent (additional education is a plus)
- Previous experience in an administrative, receptionist, or school setting
- Strong communication skills — both in person and over the phone
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, Canva)
- A calm and professional presence, especially in busy or stressful moments
- A warm, friendly personality and a genuine interest in early childhood education
