About the Department
This position provides a student interested in working in the parks and recreation profession, an introductory experience in the administration and implementation of Parks and Recreation services with an emphasis on facilities. This individual will provide staff support to the Parks and Recreation Department and perform other duties or responsibilities as assigned. The individual in this role will also complete responsibilities within the Park Maintenance department.
Expected Hours of Work
Hours are typically Monday-Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm but will include evening and weekend hours.
Position Duties
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform these essential functions:
Assist with reservations, scheduling, supervision, maintenance, and planning of improvement projects of recreation facilities and parks.
Contribute to the development of marketing and promotional initiatives for the Parks and Recreation Department.
Assist with development, implementation, and evaluation of a variety of Parks and Rec activities, events, and projects.
Provide general office support and customer service for department.
Support assessment, development, and implementation of department budgeting and capital improvement project plans.
Contribute to the development of marketing and promotional initiatives for the Parks and Recreation Department.
Visit program sites on a regular basis to evaluate staff, activities and participants while making appropriate recommendations and changes as needed.
Complete reports, evaluations, and documentation for participant and staff feedback.
Assist with the scheduling, training, and providing direction for part-time/temporary and volunteer staff.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have employee supervisory responsibilities. However, staff will oversee programs, participants, and facility users to ensure safety, enforcement of rules/regulations, and provide direction for part-time/temporary staff as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Computer proficiency: including Microsoft Office programs.
Ability to work both independently and with people of all ages and abilities.
Ability to work from early September through late December.
Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include evenings and weekends.
Valid Driver’s License and good driving record.
Desired Qualifications
Current student, or recent graduate, in a Parks and Recreation degree program or related field.
Knowledge of and/or experience working with recreation facilities, programs, and services.
Experience working in municipal recreation.
Experience with recreation management software program.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors. Employee is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. Employee is subject to noise, during events and activities, but generally free from additional work hazards.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and exchange information with others both in person and over the telephone. The employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position, as well as operate computers and other office equipment, such as a copy machine, printer, and telephone, as well as equipment/tools consistently found in parks and recreation operations. Staff will frequently read and interpret documents, including safety manuals and operating procedures. Staff will frequently traverse around the community center, golf course, and City parks, open spaces, and facilities. Will occasionally lift items weighing up to 25 pounds.
