GENERAL SUMMARY:


Reporting to the Safety Manager, the Safety Coordinator is responsible for providing administrative and technical support to Safety Department staff. The Safety Coordinator works cooperatively with all organizational staff and acts responsible with confidential matters. The Safety Coordinator is continually upholding and advancing the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Creates and maintains accurate employee safety and department records and assists in creation/revision of department related documents.
  • Responds promptly to requests for information regarding safety from all individuals with whom the organization interacts.
  • Assists in the preparation of materials for safety related meetings and events.
  • Completes all safety supply ordering for all applicable organizational locations. (i.e. create purchase orders, prepare invoices, monitor budget allowances, and accurately record spending).
  • Organizes and monitors all safety trainings, inspections, and external services. 
  • Review and monitor all internal Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Safety Inspections.
  • Works with third party venders to schedule service for fire extinguishers and sprinkler systems.
  • Assists with the organization of Workers’ Compensation files and record retention.
  • Provides employees and managers with information and assistance regarding Workers’ Compensation.
  • Helps develop and coordinate return-to-work plans; coordinates and monitors rehabilitation plan for injured employees; evaluates results of return-to-work medical examinations and makes appropriate determinations in partnership with the Safety Department. 
  • Maintains current knowledge of Federal, State, Local and OSHA regulations with regard to Health & Safety Programs and compliance.
  • Assists in the development/implementation of safety program policies and procedures and provides staff training to ensure awareness and compliance.
  • Participate in Safety Committee meetings to identify areas of risk in which preventative measures can be implemented and promote safety awareness through other presentations as appropriate.
  • Conducts Safety Audits within company locations to identify situations that are unsafe and/or hazardous and establish corrective measures to review with the Safety Manager.
  • Evaluates safety related injury data and near miss incidents to recommend solutions for the prevention and/or occurrence of accidents/injuries.
  • Conducts investigations and analyzes causes for Workers’ Compensation, Automobile Liability, and General Liability insurance claims initiated against or on behalf of the company and ensures appropriate corrective measures and trainings are implemented.
  • Conducts equipment and heavy machinery trainings at various Goodwill locations.
  • Participate in Hazardous Waste and Universal Waste Management training activities and effectively act as a resource for staff to ensure compliance with the organizations NDI and Hazardous Waste Program. 
  • Public speaking.
  • Drives on company business as required.
  • Performs other duties as required.


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Minimum of one-year experience related to workplace safety.
  • PC proficiency using WORD and Excel; experience with using the Internet and Outlook is a must.
  • Analytical ability to prepare and analyze spreadsheet activity/data related to injuries and other statistics.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills and effective time management. 
  • Current knowledge of OSHA and other related state and federal regulations related to workplace safety.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Excellent writing skills with good grammar and English.
  • Valid California driver’s license, liability insurance, and a DMV record acceptable to Goodwill's insurance company.
  • Must pass drug screening and criminal background check.
  • Must not present a direct threat of safety and health to self, others or property.
  • No record or disclosure of criminal conviction that indicates a tendency toward theft, violence, dishonesty, deceit, drug use, moral turpitude or predatory behavior in conflict with the functions listed within this job description.
  • Must immediately inform Supervisor of any arrests and/or convictions that occur while employed at Goodwill.
  • Must provide proof of identification and eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Able to perform the duties of the job description with or without reasonable accommodation.



POSITION INFORMATION:


This position is a full time, non-exempt position eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance; 403(b) retirement plan; Paid Vacation and Sick Leave. This position is employed by Goodwill Industries® of Sacramento Valley and Northern Nevada, Inc.

  • Work is divided between office and field environments.
  • Travel to various company locations is required.
  • High adaptability required.
  • Work environment is usually hectic (fast paced) with frequent short deadlines and regular instances of critical or unusual situations.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to drive, stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee may frequently lift and/or pull up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or pull up to 50 pounds.
