The Position
GENERAL SUMMARY: Are you passionate about building a safer, healthier community for children? Join Benton-Franklin Health District (BFHD) as our Childhood Injury & Violence Prevention Coordinator. In this vital role, you'll lead efforts to prevent childhood injuries and fatalities through education, advocacy, and community collaboration.
Reporting to the Healthy Living Manager, you will coordinate and manage the Safe Kids Benton-Franklin Coalition and the Child Fatality Review (CFR) Team. You'll work with community leaders, public agencies, and other stakeholders to review and analyze cases, identify trends, and implement prevention strategies that make a lasting impact.
This position is ideal for someone with strong facilitation, relationship-building, and public health skills who is ready to take action-both in the field and behind the scenes. It requires a high-energy, hands-on approach and the ability to lift and handle bulky outreach items such as car seats and display materials.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Coordinate and facilitate regular meetings of the Safe Kids Coalition, including preparation and distribution of materials.
- Serve as liaison to coalition members, sharing updates, injury data, and prevention resources.
- Conduct in-depth case reviews involving child and youth fatalities by collecting and synthesizing information from medical examiners, law enforcement, and medical records.
- Organize and lead CFR team meetings; support implementation of recommendations through policy, education, and prevention initiatives.
- Prepare required reports for Safe Kids Washington, Safe Kids Worldwide, and other stakeholders.
- Assist in grant writing to support and expand injury prevention programming.
- Plan and execute injury prevention events and community education initiatives in partnership with local organizations.
- Curate and create outreach materials and social media content tailored to injury prevention topics.
- Maintain educational resources and outreach supplies.
- Represent BFHD and the Safe Kids Coalition at state and national meetings.
- Organize and support child passenger safety checks and related education events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Solid understanding of public health principles; strong facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to present to diverse groups; comfortable working independently and collaboratively across sectors; familiarity with communications strategies use in public health.
The Requirements & Selection Process
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Community Health, or closely related field and 3 years of experience in health education or program coordination, OR Master's degree in a related field with at least 1 year of experience preferred. CHES certification preferred but not required.
Additional Requirements: Performance of job duties requires driving on a regular basis, a valid Washington State driver's license, the use of the incumbent's personal motor vehicle when a District fleet vehicle is not available for use, and proof of appropriate auto insurance. Must be able to drive regularly as part of job duties.
