The Scribe performs clerical and information technology functions for a physician in a clinic setting. The Scribe supports the physician by gathering information for the patient's visit, and documenting clinical notes such as laboratory results, prescription refills, procedures, billing information and any other documentation, as directed by the physician. The goal of this position is to partner with the physician to deliver efficient patient care, and free the physician to increase patient contact time, give more thought to complex cases, better manage patient flow through the department, and increase productivity to see more patients.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
  • Perform all clerical and information technology functions for a physician in a clinic setting.
  • Responsible for the operation of the electronic health records and electronic dictation system.
  • Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures, as they are being performed by the physician, including but not limited to: patient medical history and physical exam, procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals, including nurses and physician assistant, patient education and explanations of risks and benefits, physician-dictated diagnoses, and prescriptions and instructions for patient or family members for self-care and follow-up.
  • Prepare referral letters, as directed by the physician.
  • Dictation/faxing/phone calls and clerical tasks; use the present tense of verbs.
  • Spot mistakes or inconsistencies in medical documentation, and check to correct the information in order to reduce errors.
  • Collect, organize and catalog data for physician quality reporting system, and other quality improvement efforts and format for submission.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.

Qualifications

  • Required High School Diploma/GED
