Summary:
The GC Analyst is responsible for performing instrumental analysis using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) to identify and quantify components in various samples. This role focuses on generating and interpreting analytical data to support creative laboratory product development. The GC Analyst works closely with the GC Perfumer to develop skills and contribute to analytical creative lab projects.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Analyze reports (client projects and pro-active samples) to identify components and gather data for perfumery and flavor formulation support and knowledge building.
- Enter project notes into the CRM to document progress and maintain accurate project and client records.
- Set up and run single runs and batches on the GC/MS and prepare samples for SPME or manual extractions to generate accurate and reliable analytical data.
- Maintain spreadsheets to track samples, data, and analysis progress for efficient workflow management.
- Store reports and information electronically to ensure data accessibility, organization, and traceability.
- Update the GC/MS library to ensure accurate component identification during analysis.
- Perform general GC/MS maintenance to ensure instrument reliability and optimal performance.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and team collaborations to enhance lab processes, share insights, and contribute to problem-solving and innovative solutions.
- Collaborate with R&D and QC to implement improved analyses to ensure consistent data generation across departments as needed.
- Generate work instructions or SOPs for new tasks as needed

Requirements
Education and/or Experience: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a scientific field and one to two years of experience in GC lab work; or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: None required.
Functional Skills: Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, dosages, proportions, and volume. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where standardization is sometimes limited. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written or oral form. Interested in precision work; exhibits attention to detail. Organized in performing work and effective at documentation. Effective listening and problem-solving skills. Ability to exercise sound and accurate judgment. Ability to prioritize and plan work activities without explicit direction on each task.
Technology Aptitude/Skills: Basic knowledge of computer and keyboard functions. Working knowledge of chromatography software, database software, word processing, and spreadsheet software.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, and chemical hazard information and safety procedures. Physical and Sensory Demands / Environmental Conditions / Equipment Used:
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, electronic devices, photocopiers, filing systems/cabinets and fax machines. This role uses Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectroscopy equipment.

- The work schedule is generally 8-5pm but may vary week-to-week to ensure business and customer needs are met.
