Position Overview:

The Sales Manager is responsible for generating and managing group business opportunities with a focus on small meetings and events. This role oversees the full sales cycle—from lead response and proposal development to event execution and final billing—while maintaining a strong focus on revenue generation, guest satisfaction, and internal collaboration. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, guest-focused, and results-driven, with a passion for delivering exceptional service in a luxury environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

Sales & Revenue Performance

  • Proactively manage inbound leads for meetings and events, ensuring prompt response and personalized service.
  • Develop proposals, conduct site visits, negotiate contracts, and close business aligned with hotel goals.
  • Drive key revenue metrics, including:
    • Total group revenue generated (rooms, events, catering)
    • Room nights sold and Average Daily Rate (ADR)
    • Revenue per Available Room (RevPAR)
    • Meeting room rental revenue
    • Food & beverage revenue per event
    • Upsell revenue from enhancements, packages, and add-ons

Sales Productivity & Conversion

  • Ensure strong sales performance through:
    • Timely lead response and accurate proposal delivery
    • High conversion rate of inquiries to definite bookings
    • Consistent outbound sales efforts via calls and emails
    • Monitoring of proposals sent vs. contracts signed
    • Conducting effective and engaging site visits

Client Experience & Event Success

  • Deliver exceptional client experiences by:
    • Gathering and managing detailed client needs and expectations
    • Coordinating closely with Event Services and Operations for flawless execution
    • Monitoring client satisfaction scores (CSAT) through post-event feedback
    • Encouraging repeat business and long-term partnerships
    • Ensuring event execution accuracy and tracking cancellation trends

 

Operational & Cross-Departmental Collaboration

  • Partner closely with internal teams to support event success:
    • Ensure on-time contract completion and accurate billing
    • Maintain alignment with budget guidelines and client expectations
    • Collaborate with departments such as catering, AV, and housekeeping to ensure readiness and support
    • Utilize and maintain accurate records in CRM/event systems (TripleSeat, Cvent, etc.)

 

Group Reservations Management

  • Oversee reservation-related tasks for group business, including:
    • Providing complete and accurate group details to Reservations
    • Managing or delegating rooming list input and updates
    • Monitoring group pickup and ensuring optimal inventory management
    • Enforcing attrition clauses and contractual deadlines
    • Coordinating VIP arrangements, billing, and special requests
    • Reconciling no-shows and confirming final pickup in sales systems
    • Facilitating timely third-party commission processing

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Business, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of hotel sales, catering, or meetings management experience
  • Strong knowledge of group sales metrics and event logistics
  • Proficient in CRM and event platforms (TripleSeat, Delphi, Cvent, etc.)
  • Exceptional communication, organization, and time management skills
  • Customer-focused with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment

 

Work Environment

  • Based on-site at The Dewberry in Charleston, SC.
  • Typical schedule is Monday–Friday, with flexibility for occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays depending on business needs.
