Person County Government is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Production/Maintenance Technician to join the team at the Person County Recycling Center. This key role performs crew leader work coordinating and prioritizing tasks to be completed. This employee also performs machine maintenance, operates forklift and other machinery.

The starting salary will be determined with consideration given to both the candidate's educational background and relevant work experience.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record per County policy.
This is a non-exempt position working 40 hours weekly/2080 hours annually.
Position Duties
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Assists the Recycling Production Manager in monitoring recycling and production operations at the assigned facility on a daily basis; provides training, technical assistance, support and guidance to PI program and regular staff.
- Works closely with contractor staff to plan and schedule work and to ensure that the quality of subcontract work is met; makes changes in work to account for changing priorities and needs.
- Supports Manager and assures staff coverage for various areas of recycling and production; works to assure that employees have work available at all times; documents work performed.
- Provides support and instruction to consumer/employees at the facility as needed, including behavioral communication, safety, problem-solving
- Assures safe operation of staff.
- Works with public coming to recycling facility, providing feedback and managing complaints which front line staff could not resolve.
- Operates forklift; loads and unloads boxes; provides materials and supplies to workers; transports materials to other work sites.
- Maintains documentation of work orders and changes; assists with tracking and reconciling work orders.
- Assists manager with the maintenance of a variety of employee-related records.
- Performs machine maintenance and facilities maintenance tasks when needed including bailer, sort line, and building maintenance work.
- Attends trainings and meetings to maintain core competencies and skills.
- Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent and a year of experience in recycling or production, trades or related work including machine maintenance and operation and preferably including crew leader responsibilities;
- or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Other Qualifications
- Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license;
- forklift operator experience.
