Job Title: Behavioral Health Clinician

Department: Residential 

Reports to: Residential Director of Operations

FLSA Status: Exempt


Position Overview:

Our mission is to provide comprehensive, evidence-based treatment services to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by substance use and mental health problems. We create a foundation for healing, strengthen family connections, and offer hope for a brighter future.


Residential Behavioral Health Clinicians provide co-occurring, individual, group and family treatment services, and oversee the case management and care coordination activities for a caseload of adolescents in the residential treatment program. Clinicians work in collaboration with the client, client’s family and the treatment team to implement developmentally appropriate evidenced based clinical interventions and trauma-informed therapies that promote resiliency and improved behavioral and symptom management. Clinicians implement and oversee the residential milieu's Clinical model/mindset and behavior management program (Collaborative Problem Solving) and ensure its delivery is in alignment with best practices, is strengths based, and is developmental in design.


ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical

  1. Delivers quality clinical treatment services that are responsive to individual client needs, reflective of current research and evidenced based practices in the treatment of co-occurring disorders. 
  2. Provides assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning and weekly individual, group, and family therapy for a caseload up to 10 clients. 
  3. Utilize Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) as a method for understanding and responding to challenging behaviors with clients and staff. 
  4. Supports clients in achieving successful completion from treatment; adjusting treatment plans as clinically appropriate to improve client outcomes. 
  5. Supports and develops the therapeutic milieu of the residential program, ensuring appropriate care, treatment, safety and stabilization occurs in collaboration with residential treatment team members.
  6. Works in collaboration with Case Managers and Treatment Aides to assist clients with achieving improved mental health and behavioral stability.
  7. Provides shift and duty coverage as part of the residential treatment team- including assessing calls for safety and completing risk assessments, covers risk triage with other members of residential treatment team, assists Director and other Managers in developing safety protocols, is involved in training new staff as per agency protocol.
  8. Provide treatment in compliance with ethical standards and Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) and cultural competency. 
  9. Provide crisis management as needed. 
  10. Transport residents to off-campus appointments and activities; provide direct supervision for individual residents and groups during off campus activities and appointments. 
  11. Perform other task(s) as needed. 


Milieu Management

  1. Effectively manage crisis situations.
  2. Assess the need for and establish moment-in-time Interventions which address the need of individuals or groups of individuals within the milieu and ensures safety and stability of the milieu.
  3. Manage Incidents and document interventions and follow up according to policy, notifying the on-call administrator as required.
  4. Provide shift/floor coverage as needed/mandated for safety and client care.
  5. Be aware of the whereabouts of all clients at all times. 
  6. Ensure clients are not alone in or have unsupervised access to the staff station, kitchen, or any other unauthorized area at any time. 
  7. Conduct rounds both inside and outside the building as necessary.
  8. Monitor client phone calls.
  9. Conduct UA’s and perform person and property searches.
  10. Responsibly assist clients with self-administration of medications according to agency policies and procedures.


Family Engagement

  1. Value the importance of family participation in treatment. 
  2. Actively engage family from the start of treatment and provide weekly family therapy.
  3. Maintain weekly contact with the family (in person, via phone, or video conference) to provide an update on client progress.
  4. Utilizes A-CRA or another evidenced based family therapy model for adolescents with co-occurring disorders.

 

Care Coordination

  1. Oversee your client caseload’s coordination of care with medical and psychiatric providers, probation, DHS and, when appropriate, other mental health providers. Communicate as needed with external community providers for coordination of care purposes and ensure communication and feedback to the treatment team.
  2. Ensure weekly correspondence occurs with the client’s Care Team including outpatient providers, probation, case workers, etc…
  3. Advocate for clients as necessary for legal purposes, continuing care services, to obtain payment from insurance etc.


Documentation

  1. Utilize Concurrent Documentation (a.k.a., collaborative documentation) in order to increase client engagement, efficiency and productivity by completing assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes together with clients during rather than after the session.
  2. Record and document observations regarding client behavior in the milieu and individual progress toward identified goals in a timely manner.
  3. Complete other record-keeping responsibilities, including those associated with the program’s quality improvement program.

  • Obtain CADC certification within two years of hire.

CONFLICTING DEMANDS:

The Residential BH Clinician must negotiate the conflicting demands of attending to both staff and clients, and keeping the safety and functionality of the therapeutic milieu a priority. The BH Clinician must also prioritize and manage his/her work in providing excellent outcomes based clinical treatment, milieu management and care coordination.


ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

The Residential BH Clinician reports to the Residential Program Operations Director. 

Work Team: Administrative Staff, Outpatient Intake/Care Coordinators, Program Director, Program Manager, Quality and Compliance Manager, Medical Director, Other BH Clinicians, Peer Support Specialists, Admissions Coordinator, Residential Treatment Aides.

The Residential BH Clinician provides guidance and leadership to staff and interns in the residential program.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE


Required

  1. Master’s degree in Counseling/Behavioral Health/Social Work

Preferred

  1. Professional Licensure (LPC, LMFT, LCSW)
  2. Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC I, II or III)
  3. Experience and Advanced Training in Trauma and Family Treatment
  4. Competent in providing effective evidenced based individual trauma therapy, family therapy, group therapy, clinical assessment and DSM 5 diagnoses, developing treatment plans, suicide assessment, safety plans, crisis intervention, behavior management, case management and care coordination.
