The AVP, Portfolio Management & ALM role is responsible for translating strategic asset-allocation targets into clear mandates for external managers, monitoring performance and risk, and steering tactical moves that enhance both return and liability alignment. This is a Hybrid role out of the Jersey City Office.
What You Will Do:
- Manage existing portfolios in line with cedant guidelines and Fortitude Re’s risk framework, ensuring timely asset rotation and efficient deployment of surplus capital.
- Lead recurring discussions on market opportunities, portfolio performance, compliance with guidelines, and tactical shifts across public and private fixed-income markets.
- Identify market dislocations and propose trades that add value while maintaining alignment with liability profiles.
- Collaborate with Treasury and Trading desks to track duration, convexity, and liquidity, and FX exposures; recommend hedging or rebalancing actions as needed.
- Develop and maintain monitoring, tracking, and reporting tools that give real-time insight into portfolio performance, risk, and guideline adherence.
- Work closely with Actuarial, Risk, Capital, Finance, and Treasury teams to support pricing, due-diligence efforts, and company-wide initiatives.
What You Will Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related discipline; CFA or comparable actuarial/risk credentials preferred.
- 7+ years in insurance asset management, fixed-income portfolio management, or roles focused on liability-driven investment mandates
- Proven ability to analyze complex cash-flow profiles and craft investment solutions that balance return, risk, and regulatory constraints.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; able to articulate sophisticated concepts to senior stakeholders.
- Strong analytical mindset with meticulous attention to detail and a track record of meeting deadlines in time-sensitive settings.
- Deep familiarity with fixed-income markets across public and private sectors, ALM principles, and portfolio performance measurement is viewed favorably.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience working with large data sets and coding in Python or SQL is a plus.
The base salary range for this role is listed below and will be commensurate with candidate experience. Pay ranges for candidates may differ based on the cost of labor in that location. In addition to base salary, all employees are eligible for an annual bonus based on company and individual performance as well as a generous benefits package.
