Hours: Sat-Sun, 2x12s - 7a-7p (every weekend)
Pay: $50/hourEssential Functions:
- Provides overall supervision of staff, tasks, and workflow on the units and the hospital during assigned shift. Assigns work and ensures the timeliness and quality of work performed.
- Coordinates the care of patients on assigned shift. Ensures proper shift levels by evaluating census, acuity, skill level, and staff availability.
- Coordinates with nursing staff and leadership to manage attendance, including absences, tardies, and call offs. The House Supervisor has first-level responsibility to find staff to cover open shifts.
- Collaborates on hiring, employee training and development, investigations, performance assessment, and retention of assigned staff, including participating in or initiating counseling and disciplinary actions.
- Assists with orientation and development of new staff, including agency staff.
- Provides feedback and advice to Nurse Manager/DNO regarding department happenings, workflow issues, possible process improvement projects, and trends in staff morale.
- Assists with direct patient care nursing responsibilities during high flow work times, and accepts patient assignments as needed.
- Participates as part of the Nursing Leadership team in quality and compliance initiatives to include audits, summaries, analysis of data, and follow up.
- Provides leadership during and after incidents and other urgent situations, to include critique, root cause analysis, and incident reporting.
- May be required to work during inclement weather and other staffing emergencies.
- Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and staff. Assess the risks for safety and implements appropriate precautions. Complies with appropriate and approved safety standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the department.
Minimum Job Requirements
Minimum Education & Experience
- One (1) year recent nursing supervisory experience in a charge nurse role required.
- Bachelor's of Science degree in Nursing preferred.
- Experience in acute care setting preferred.
- Experience in rehabilitation setting preferred.
Required Licenses, Certifications, and/or Documentation
- Current state Registered Nurse license required.
- Current BLS Certification required.
- ACLS certification required in Texas. Preferred in all other states.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of and adherence to current nursing theory and practice, infection prevention, and wound care standards of practice.
- Knowledge of accreditation standards to ensure adherence to all standards set forth by state and accrediting agencies of TJC and CMS.
- Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures, and utilizes proper policies, procedures, and guidelines in caring for patients.
- Demonstrates general computer skills including data entry, word processing, email, and records management.
- Demonstrates critical thinking skills.

- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and complete complex tasks.

Physical Requirements over the course of a shift
- A significant amount of standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling, often for prolonged periods of time
- Both gross and precise motor functions
- Lifting/exerting of up to 50 lbs
- Possible exposure to bodily fluids
- Visual acuity required for patient assessment and documentation of care
- Acute hearing required for accurate patient assessment
- Sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment and computer keyboard
- Ability to hear overhead pages
