POSITION: Sr. Project Engineer III
SUPERVISOR: Engineering Project Manager
Project Engineer for Utility-Scale Renewable Energy Projects

We seek an outstanding Project Engineer to efficiently coordinate planning and daily execution of renewable energy projects from concept through construction. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including project managers, construction managers, technicians, contractors and owners to ensure the successful implementation of solar energy systems. Your expertise in solar engineering and renewable energy technologies will be essential to the company's mission of advancing sustainable energy solutions.

Established in 2014, Gridworks is a leading EPC contractor for utility-scale solar and battery storage projects. Primarily operating across the southwest, we are expanding into other regions. With 2 GW of solar and battery energy storage projects we are well positioned for continued success in the rapidly growing clean energy sector.
Job Responsibilities:
Engineering Management and Collaboration

Manage internal and third-party engineers of record to produce design deliverables in accordance with client requirements, project budget, within a timeline that meets project schedule

Understand engineering’s involvement in safety, quality, estimating, procurement, warranty and other internal teams

Be able to read comprehend and manage to EPC Contracts and Subcontracts

Work collaboratively across the organization and externally to support Gridworks values and goals
Design Development

Perform Quantity Take Off’s on designs (understanding electrical, civil and structural) scopes and provide comparisons to budget

Articulate design intent to clients, receive client and project team feedback and relay to design engineers

Provide value engineering as needed

Understand construction means and methods of install to facilitate constructability reviews of designs
Procore Documentation

Proficiently utilize Procore for document management
-
Create, track and transmit submittals to clients and engineers of record

Timely file relevant documentation and archival of previous design versions

Be able to track document revisions in Procore and maintain document control
Construction Support

Create and facilitate responses to construction RFI’s

Support commissioning, testing and close out process efforts
Continuous Improvement

Stay updated with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in electrical engineering

Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of electrical design processes
WORK ENVIORNMENT

The ideal candidate should be physically able to sit in front of a computer every workday for long hours at a time

This job could operate in the main office or remote

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and headsets

Work can be fast-paced and demanding during peak seasons in project development

Candidate must be capable of conducting themselves in a manner reflective of Gridworks Standards in client and contractor meetings

Light travel is expected for this position. Remote workers may travel more frequently.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in renewable energy or construction projects.
- Familiarity with PV & BESS Systems, construction drawings, and engineering documentation.
- Proven experience in a fast-paced, high-stress environment with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Procore, or project management software is a plus.
- Willingness and ability to work extended hours on occasion to meet project deadlines.
- Ability to travel to project sites up to 30% of the time.
- Strong understanding of EPC project lifecycles and constructability.
- Experience with reviewing and managing engineering deliverables and collaborating with procurement teams.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Knowledge of the NEC, IEEE, and other relevant codes and standards.
- Experience with project scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
- PMP, NABCEP, and EIT or PE certification.
